I thought, "Those are the same lyrics of a song we sing, but a different tune!" Only after looking it up did I remember that you also did that song. My Hope is Built on Nothing Less. Excellent job!

Yup! This version was written in 2011/2012 by some contemporary Christian worship (Christian rock) folks. They borrowed some lyrics from "My Hope Is Built" and added their own. Glad you enjoyed!

EXCELLENT choice of Eb Major for this one. Purely brilliant and pleasant covering of this song. I am not normally one for CCM, (as I prefer Hymns,) but you did so much justice to this one. May the Lord bless you Bro!
@acappellahymns3 жыл бұрын
Thanks brother! I think you and I have similar tastes. But I'll got a bit further and explain that, if I don't know that the original was a CCM song and the lyrics are Biblical and it's not too difficult to sing, I'll probably like it. In the case of this one, I had heard Hillsong do it before so I knew it was CCM. But if I hadn't, I think the only thing that would have given it away for me would be the syncopated (off-beat) rhythms and the partially re-used lyrics. Other than that, the lyrics are simple and *full* and the melody/harmonies are easy enough. It is one case of a CCM song translating well to a cappella.
@AM-60303 жыл бұрын
@@acappellahymns I absolutely agree that we have similar tastes. I really like your approaching in this. I am the same way- some contemporary songs are just lyrically sound and doctrinally sound, and they have no negative bearing. Obviously though, some of them can be very repetitive and not exactly our preference. Another song from Hillsong that would really translate well into an acappella is Oceans. Particularly in E-Flat as well! (E-flat major is my favourite key of all time!) There is just something so beautiful about the slides into F minor, C minor, and G minor respectively, and all of the chords involved in it. What is your favourite key, to listen to and sing to?
@acappellahymns3 жыл бұрын
@@AM-6030 You're definitely right that some contemporary songs are too repetitive. We call the 7-11 songs. 7 words repeated 11 times. 🤣 Some of them are okay, especially for kids. But there's usually not enough "meat" there for me. I'm not sure I have a favorite key. Since I'm a trumpet player, I usually prefer reading/playing in flat keys. That preference went with me to piano as well. But with singing, I actually don't think about note names and keys much. I use some of the shapes and moveable Do solfege sometimes (which doesn't depend on key).
@AM-60303 жыл бұрын
@@acappellahymns 7-11 songs, I love it!! 😄 That is fascinating that you also play trumpet. Indeed, the trumpet does like the flat keys! And I totally agree with you about the CCM. It is nice when songs like Cornerstone or Behold Our God have that meat, as well as a beautiful tune and words, to worship our Lord with!

I was in Cookeville this last weekend participating in the Renew Lectureship at Northeast Church of Christ. I was so disappointed that I could not stay for the evening singing you were going to lead. Inside the Gate by J.W. Vaughan, #264 in Songs of the Church I would love to hear. I have been searching for this song for several years now and cannot find it anywhere. I would also love to hear you do Standing by the River, # 486 by marion w. easterling. There are several quartet covers of this beautiful song, but no acapella that I have been able to find. Thank you for everything you do on this channel, keep up the good work. God bless.

Seeing the opening "My hope is built on nothing less" , my mind is conditioned to hear the William Bradbury music. Regardless, very well done. Looks like Hillsong borrowed some lyrics from Edward Mote.

@acappellahymns3 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. This was originally a modern worship song with more of a Christian rock feel. They did use some of the words from "My Hope Is Built" but made their own chorus to go with it.

I said that because I see in comments people(me also) who heard that version for the first time (melody). So I checked the original version and I realised that it is inappropriate for me, as a christian.
@acappellahymns3 жыл бұрын
Just so I'm understanding correctly - this song is not appropriate because it started out as a song that was sang with instruments? Or because of who wrote it? Or the way some of the newer song was borrowed from "My Only Hope Is Built"? I'm not trying to start an argument. Just trying to understand what you're saying. If it's inappropriate for one Christian, it would definitely be inappropriate for any others.

no, I love this version and what I'm trying to say is that the melody is very important for me. .. I am trying to reply for 5 mins and I hope I won t spam here.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6jSf5mkm7Bpm6s p.s: I did not mean that your version or the sound is inappropriate, but the way the original song is sang.. I.m not sure if my point is understandable

Valiant and perhaps well-intended yet this song lacks the scriptural imperative necessary to make it but a mere "7-11 song." Contemporary means, seven words are sung in repetition eleven times. More narcissism than worship. It's like a preacher who is in love with his own voice.
