in this video, I will compare Corona HDRI vs Sun & Sky for interior scenes . Also, why and how to color map your image right from the render frame, instead of making it at the end in post-processing.
hdri used in this tutorial can be download from here: hdrihaven.com/hdris/

If you make the sun bigger, it means it's going through a medium such as haze or clouds. That also lowers its intensity, often dramatically. Similarly, the sun which has an angular size of about 0.5 degrees, don't "become bigger" just because it's lower in the sky. HDRIs for me (I don't use Corona, but I think it applies in general) are trickier to sample and thus produce more noise. HDRIs may produce more the look you're looking for, and more so it will produce it instantly simply by changing it. But Sun & sky is more flexible and accurate as long as you can tweak the atmospheric conditions (software dependent) and you have to pretty much redo the outdoors to bounce something else into the room. Sun & sky will be true to color, whereas you may not know the color temperature that is used to correct the HDRI to get to its final version.

Great 🙌🏻 I have a question, what if I want to exclude objects from Hdri ot Corona Sky? The situation is that I need to put plants outdoor to be seen as the background from the window but they can't be seen due to high brightness of the sky.

very cool tutorial thaks for sharing it, for me I use corona Sun and sky most of the time I feel it faster because it takes less computer memory, But in other cases, I use HDRI to get a batter look

What do you do if you don't want a blown-out HDRI background image in the render? How do you control the intensity of the light and the BG image independently in 3dsmax?

What are your thoughts about noise when using hdri in comparison with corona sky/sun? I have read, that some people reduce the image size of the hdri, to speed up rendertime and reduce noise? Have you ever tried this ? I am a new follower of your channel....great stuff!

Yes, hdri known to create more noise. thats why it makes the render process longer then when using the sun and sky. If you reduce the size of the hdr image or make it blurry, it will help with render time since there will be less details and pixels to deal with.

Very good video, thanks! I prefer to use HDRI but I have seen that my render times (Vray 3.6) go through the roof when I use HDRI for lighting an interior scene. Maybe because of the glass in the windows and I'm asking Vray to bounce HDRI light particles through large panels of glass? I don't know, but I really prefer HDRI results, especially for evening/dawn shots. However, I also prefer the shadows and shafts of light that I get from Sun & Sky... depends on the situation, really.

I dont think regular window glass should increase the render time dramatically, maybe there are other objects or problematic materials in the scene. Try to isolate the problem and make several tests.

@@archvizcamp well, i prefer hdri because it gives me wide range of color coming from the atmosphere. I think the sky in real life isn't only one color which is blue. But it's a mixture of some other colors. And you can see it at the beach looking at the sky you will find some yellow and some orange specially before the sunrise. And that can easily applied by using hdri. And also the color reflected from some other objects like trees and buildings which is in the hdri. That's why I prefer hdri. But it just depends on which hdri you use
