In this tutorial, learn how to use the Corona MultiMap to quickly and easily create variations in materials.
00:00 - Title screen
00:11 Introduction
00:43 Example, randomize leaves on a tree, and from tree to tree
00:49 Example, randomize texture of floor tiles from a scattering plugin
01:06 Introduction to the "By Element" mode
01:32 Setting up a test scene
02:01 The 7 different modes
02:07 The By Primitive mode
02:21 The By Material mode
02:35 The By Instance mode, one of the most commonly used modes, e.g. to randomize each instance of a tree to have a different color
02:53 The By Material ID mode
03:32 Combining By Material ID and By Instance
04:00 The By Material GBuffer ID and By Object GBuffer ID modes
04:34 The By Mesh Element mode, e.g to randomize individual leaves on a tree
04:53 Using Batch Load to load a list of bitmaps
05:10 Using the Item Count, Hue random and Gamma random parameters
05:25 Combining the various distribution modes, e.g. randomized leaves on one tree, and randomized differences between each tree instance
06:47 Using the MultiMap in the Opacity channel (e.g. to vary the number of leaves on each tree)
07:33 A note about the Corona MultiMap previewed in the viewport

You might think the renderer is Corona's main strength, but I think useful tools like this MultiMap is just as (or maybe even more?) important. Plz never stop developing these.

Thank you Mats! We think the same as you - yes it is important that the engine itself renders quickly, BUT even more valuable than your computer's time is YOUR time, so workflow tools like these which save you time in setting up scenes etc. are a vital part of what makes up a render engine these days. Thank you for letting us know that we are achieving that goal, and we will always keep developing tools like these :) Thanks! Tom

Great to hear! Yes, once you see some examples of how a tool can be put to use, we hope it does inspire brand new ideas for effects, approaches and workflows. Our favorite here was using the multimap to vary the number of leaves on each tree, something that may not be as obvious at first glance as randomizing the colors. Thanks! Tom

@@oso_Peligroso Hahha certainly not! Our hope is to always make new tools and features based on the new ideas, but keep them fast, light, intuitive, and easy to use, even when doing something new! And of course, as we make existing things easier and faster, it leaves more time for those new things, so always keep the new ideas coming in feature requests, and we'll keep them coming from the development side! Thanks! Tom

it would be really nice if we can offset maps randomly like Gamma and Hue.. waiting for that. cox sometimes we have to put same map into all color slots, and its kinder repeating the texture pattern.. i know that we can attach all objects, but sometimes we have to change the design like size.. for example wood planks or wooden screen, cox i use chamfer modifier on top of poly, and i dont want convert the poly after chamfer.. hope u got the point.. thanks

Hi! The UVWRandomizer does just that, if I correctly understand what you are asking for - you can randomize offset, scale, and rotation of a bitmap, so that it doesn't repeat, and can have that randomized by mesh element, material id, instance, etc. See coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000039642-what-is-the-coronauvwrandomizer-map-. Thanks! Tom

nice tutorial - does anyone know how to control the color ID in the Corona multimap such that it can be linked to a multi-sub object? currently i'm only able to create a multimap that starts from 1
@ChaosCorona
@ChaosCorona Жыл бұрын
Multimap will color randomly, not in a particular order, which means on a multi-sub object you will still get all parts colored in object, some using color 1. So you won't have some part of the multi-sub object uncolored. May be best to ask over on the forums though where you can show screenshots of your set up and what you want to achieve, forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?board=29.0, as I may be misunderstanding here. Thanks! Tom

Which is the best mode for wooden planks textures ... May i know😅..?
@ChaosCorona
@ChaosCorona 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorry, that is not a question that can be answered without knowing how you set up the planks - manual copies, instances, some scattering tool, some array, some third party plugin? Best place to have questions answered is on the forum, where you can share more info and can include screengrabs - head on over to forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?board=29.0 to ask there, as KZbin comments are not a good place for us to help out! Thanks! Tom

@@okmijun Sorry, no license. And sorry you don't like these ones, some folks do, these are very feature-specific and aim to get on with things rather than some tutorials that go on more slowly and for a longer time. Everyone prefers something different though. That said, they certainly aren't generic, as they are very specific to Corona and how to get things done, covering the ground fast :) Cheers! Tom

I tried "resume last render" with and without my CXR file and didn't work. I tried loading the file to resume as well and got artifacts and weird blending. Had to start all over. You would think "resume last render" would actually do just that when you click it. I'm sure it works...somehow, but not just the click of a button.

Hi! Please open a ticket or post over on the forums with any bugs and problems - support and development don't monitor KZbin comments. This is because KZbin doesn't have a way of sharing everything we need - see coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000524006-how-to-report-issues-3ds-max. Be sure to include more info, such as which version of Corona, was the CXR created in another version of Corona, the private uploader to upload the scene and/or CXR that gave problems, a screen grab of the artifacts and weird blending, etc. We're not aware of any issues with resume render, and it should indeed be just one button press :) With the extra info, we can take a look into it for you. Thanks! Tom

Not sure what you mean, in terms of how that would work - for any feature requests though, please post on the forum so developers can see them and we can keep track of them (something that is impossible to do in KZbin comments :) ) - head to corona-renderer.com/forum/index.php?board=5.0 and describe how you would like the feature to work. Best thing to do is try both for yourself - sounds like you already know V-Ray, so download and try Corona free for 45 days. There are no limitations (so, no watermarks or render resolution limitations), and you can even use it commercially if you like, we don't mind :) That will let you find out first-hand whether Corona or V-Ray best fits your needs and workflow - corona-renderer.com/download

Well, everyone will have a preferred speed of tutorial - the beauty of video tutorials though is you can reply sections, etc. So it is better for a few people to find something a bit too fast, as they can always slow it down or just repeat a part (while if many people find a tutorial too slow, there's nothing much they can do about it except sit patiently through it....)
