My husband and I love Coronado. He moved from Texas and his job paid for his apartment on Coronado. So we basically had most our dates there and he proposed to me there too. When I first moved there, every weekend I rode my bike around Coronado. I loved looking at the beautiful houses. Coronado is a special place still after 25 years later

My grandma lives in Coronado. In fact, I am visiting her right now as I'm watching this. I call Coronado the land of millionaires and grandparents, because those are the only people that can live here. If you can afford to visit Coronado, I would recommend seeing the Del during Christmas. They put up a huge tree in the lobby and cover the roof in lights. It's pretty cool. Of course, the only reason I can visit Coronado is because my grandma lives here. I can't afford it otherwise. Also, my grandma is president of the Coronado Bridge and Bay Garden Club. They have a small float in the 4th of July parade and my sister and I have been marching as flamingos for three years in the parade.

I grew up on Coronado during the 60’s and 70’s, back then it was just a small navy town with lots of retired and active duty military. Fun place to grow up

FYI The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum was published in 1900 in Chicago. Four years later Baum and his wife left Chicago to spend their winters in Coronado. He did continue to add more books to the Oz series which he wrote in Coronado, but not the original book everyone has come to love.

The Spreckels House, the site of a "murder" and suicide with the stepmother hanging nude off the rear balcony. This was in the early 2000's. Hotel Del Coronado finished a long renovation and addition to new hotel/condo units. It is a nice place, too many tourists and every inch of the place has been monetized. Drinks are watered down and prices are generally too high for the services rendered.
@Voyagerhq Жыл бұрын
The Spreckles house story is interesting. I didn’t get into it in this video but remember when that happened.
@kennixox262 Жыл бұрын
@@Voyagerhq It was quite the talk of the town. at the time. I keep a small place at Coronado Shores and try to stay tuned into what's happening around town. That was also about the same time two Navy pilots, and a girlfriend were found murdered in their rented house after bringing a "friend" home with them.
@Voyagerhq Жыл бұрын
That’s right I vaguely remember that story also but haven’t looked into the details.

The waters off Coronado and the Silver Strand have been polluted by raw Mexican sewage lately. Many days are 'Red Flag" days when entry into the ocean is forbidden. It is a chronic problem, unfortunately.

If you pause at the :34 second mark and zoom in to the military base at the end of the silver strand, you will notice a building in the shape of a swastika sign.

Yes those upper levels are known for that. It’s a creepy area to walk through. They just finished building a brand new addition of hotel rooms but I’m not sure if they will update the original structure.

having been in the navy and very familiar with this place; the coronado bridge is called "the suicide bridge." FYI
@Voyagerhq Жыл бұрын
I lived there for a few years and the bridge would be closed regularly for that reason. A few times I had to drive down the stand to get off the island.
