I had a heart attack last April (41yrs) and since then I have gotten 6 stents. The Dr. says that the smaller vessels around the heart are 100% clogged but nothing can be done about it. I have spoke to a few people that ask about it and all they all ask why I havent had this procedure done. This heart stuff is no joke. I actually felt my last breath. I have chest pains everyday. Some worse than others. Taking 10 different meds that doc says I will take for life. I do not wish this on anyone.

I am so impressed with the people who do this kind of thing. They saved my girlfriend's life several years ago and there is no way to adequately express our gratitude. My father had the same procedure done at the age of 72, so well that he survived another 14 years, much longer than the average expectancy.

***** Hi back. As I remember he spent a couple of weeks in hospital, then it was a couple of months before the staples were removed from his chest (I never saw the staples and didn't wish to). He was not diabetic and was walking around by then but not exerting himself. He got too much anesthesia though which affected his short-term memory, so be careful to express your concern about this to the doctors. I'm 67 now and diabetic but fortunately without heart problems. My girlfriend had been diabetic for 30 years when she had her surgery at age 58 and she recovered nicely, however the stress finished off her already weakened kidneys and she's been on dialysis ever since: this is a risk for your father. The best of luck to him and the family; many people have this operation nowadays and the great majority fully recover from it.

My father had a triple bypass at age 60 - after his heart attack. He sustained about 20% damage to his heart muscle. He lived until he was 88. Now, at age 67, I am facing a triple bypass too. The key difference is that I have not had a heart attack - therefore no damaged muscle.

@@SoapinTrucker Hey , The open heart surgery went good. Had 3 Bypasses but , five weeks later my incision got infected really bad and I had to have two more chest surgeries done . I spent another two weeks in the hospital. Came home with a pic line in my left arm and I had to take antibiotics for another eight weeks. I'm doing good still some pain in my chest and upper stomach where they had all them tubes in me . I Thank Jesus for being with me and helping me. Thank you so much for asking about me . I had a 3x graph CABG in 1996. The surgeon was excellent in Centennial Hospital Nashville TN. I was on temp duty from Virginia and started on a morning exercise run. Then, chest pain hit me and lucky a driver saw me on the ground. I have had maybe 6 stents since then. At age 69, I hope to continue living retirement dreams. I have 2 brothers and I am the oldest.. My brother next to oldest, had a drinking and smoking lifestyle and party hard. He had severe heart issues. Well, at Univ of Kentucky Lexington, he got a LVAD installed. A pump to keep blood flow at 25% function rate. He died 6 days later of organ failure. My youngest brother has a smoking problem and lives in a walmart tent for 30 years now. His dinning habits are poor. He just had a heart at age 60 and they transported him to St. Thomas West in Nashville TN. Long drives for me folks from Petersburg VA. A stent was placed in his heart vessel and muscle damage from heart attack. Our father died in 1965 when all this technology was not available. He was in the army and walter reed was limited on care. Life style and family history plays a role in your life span. Keep exercise up and eat healthy. I homestead on 10 acres and always outside working and raising poultry and large garden.

I just had a multiple bypass procedure and came through it just fine. Because of a blood clot in my left leg, the leg in which the veins for the bypass were harvested, I needed a second surgery to remove the clot. Its been three months and I am up and doing fine. @@calamity1803 weight is the hardest, especially when around family gatherings, all the good foods we are so used to eating. I have started eating lots of veggies, and much less of the meats.. four eggs per week, or egg whites chicken once a week fish couple times a week steaks and other red meat once in two weeks sleep at 10pm up at 7am lots of water, mineral water and tea, coffee couple times a week what a change.. take care of your self, it's your life and it's precious.. God bless us, may we live long lives

I’m 18 I was born with two heart conditions called Dextrocarida and CHF and I almost died from it and I had bypass heart surgery in 2007 to 2009 I had heart problems like mostly in my childhood now I have a scar from my surgery, I couldn’t breathe when I just a newborn I stayed in the hospital about 15 weeks when I turned 3 I had surgery on my heart, I had cardiologist appointments ages of 3 to 5 years old for my heart conditions I didn’t grew out of it when I was just a newborn when I just turned 3 I had a heart attack and rushed to the hospital I was in a ambulance now I don’t have heart problems anymore thank goodness it’s over.

Hello it's June 2021 and I just had this surgery done only with me it was a Quadruple by-pass , I had some serious blockage I was unaware of and when I felt what I thought was a form of indigestion I knew something was wrong . An X-ray at the hospital confirmed it (blockage) . When the nurse told me I was floored heck I'm only 61. My Primary Care Physician suggested by-pass . Living in Boston I went to Tufts Medical Center who does more of these operations than anyone . Well It's been a week and I'm sore as hell (but Alive ) and hoping the rest of my life will be better .

I'm overweight and I'm starting to struggle again . What you eat is everything and for me I eat in restaurants way to much and don't really workout at all (which is a must). I'm 63 yrs.old and just don't have the energy but that's on me I must find a way to stay active and stay healthy.

The trouble with getting old and cantankerous is that you may be in danger of raising your blood pressure and needing things like coronary bypasses! I'm English too and since my heart bypass I find that in my more lucid moments I have a much more balanced view about what is important and what is not. Life matters, and so does enjoying it without letting trivialities get in the way. Minor details about how other people, especially people in other countries, pronounce things do not.

All was correct , with the exception of closing sutures... a super strong adhesive is used in Lew of stitching ! Also in addition to wires , two small metal plates are added to support the breast plate from shifting... I know...just had my quad bypass about a month ago...almost healed on the outside and have a bit to go internally!

The video is wrong; the tube that takes blood away from the heart is not called a vein, it is also an artery like its opposite artery that supplies blood to the heart. Veins are smaller and capillaries are smaller still.

My boyfriend had a quadruple bypass the day after Christmas last year he has still many issues such as A.F.I.B and also dizziness when getting up from sitting down...He is doing better but has been a very long process for him.

I had surgery 3,5 years ago, a lot of it sounds famlliar. . Dizziness when getting up is sort of normal, could be caused by low bloodpressure. The medication lowers your bloodpressure, to protect your heart. Coping with stress excitement, a lot of patiens experience that also. Also feeling out of breath, tired, exhausted at times is pretty normal i believe. Try to exercise if possible, it can make you feel better and stronger.

There are a lot of people still alive thanks to bypass surgery, these are cases where stents are not sufficient as the area of blockages is too great. There are others who either didn't want to go through the procedure or for whom it was too late. The problems start in your 40s or sometimes earlier. That is the time to get your blood pressure checked, your cholesterol under control, get to a normal weight and exercise as well as having a balanced diet and not smoking. Otherwise, you simply increase your risk of having problems in your 50s or 60s with the risk of heart attack or stroke. If that's a risk you're happy to take, then go ahead pig out, lie on the sofa and smoke 60 a day!

Chest drains are removed the day before discharge from the hospital. They are about 12 inches long and a patient is asked to breathe in and then hold their breath while a nurse pulls them out quickly. The three openings are then bandaged and eventually scabs form over the openings. The wires stay inside the body always.

Yes, it can take some time to recover completely. When possible, try to exercise,. I did a sort of rehabilitation fitness training, it worked good for me.

So what do they do with those things that are left inside? The thing which they've left inside for draining fluids during the healing process... And what about those metal wires which connect the chest bone? They will be in body for the rest of their life ?

They pull out the tubes after 1 or 2 days, in a gentle way. The metal wires stay inside. Sometimes in some patiënts after recovery the wires can give pain. With a small operation doctors can take them out if necessary.

I am 64 this august, and I had quadrupal heart bypass 17 seventeen years ago, 12 months later I had 3 stents inserted in to my heart. That was 17 yes seventeen years ago and I am still alive, I also suffer with type 1 diabetes which is a pain in the backsiide at times. People tell me I have lived longer than I should have since having the heart bypass. I s this true?

Hi speakman! Thank you for sharing your story. A person's life expectancy after a cardiac bypass surgery with or without subsequent stent placement is determined by a combination of factors including compliance to medication regime (including adherence to follow up clinic scgedules) diet and lifestyle of an individual as well as occurrence of complications after the procedure, long term.or short term. Having said that, if every factor is taken care of as required, one can survive for as long as the condition is under control. Eradication of risk factors (diet and lifestyle modification) and good compliance to medication and follow up clinic is key to an excellent prognosis and ultimately increasing life quality and survival rates as well.
