A lot of viewers miss the interloping word play it used to have, the undulating and gentle build up of story lines, and characters. it doesn`t always have to be fast paced action to keep viewers interested, sometimes its nice to relax, switch off, and just be carried along by wry humour and clever scripts, which coronation street used to be so good at.

Thanks for the upload i love watching old coronation street at its best. Seems a lot of people think the same way i do about corrie the show is well past its sell by date more like hollyoaks now. Classic characters like hilda, bet, and elsie tanner.

Yeah. There's n episode in 1960's where Elsie Tanner storms into her house and slams the door and the whole wall moves. Haha it's quite funny.

I love the pre-credits clocks. If you have these on DVD you can find the clock by winding back at the start of each episode. Each episode has a second clock that can be found by winding back at the start of Part 2. You can sometimes here and see actors getting into place or having a gossip.

In this case the actors were rehearsing and discussing the lines. In Ken's case you can hear him distinctly say his line before it goes quiet and later you can hear him say the line in the corner shop.

That's Renee in that opening clip with Alf. I believe she died in a car crash that same year.

Three years later, Percy Sugden moved in! Loved all the older folk in the show back in the 60s/70s/80s

Yes, indeed. We don't all need rape and murder to entertain us.I miss the years on coronation st where you knew you were in for a nice sit back and relax with a bit of drama AND humour.

Perhaps Coronation Street should do what EastEnders are doing and do a spin off show, only this time it could be for the elderly and so return Corrie to the "good old days". As the elderly aren't online as much, they'd have to put it on ITV4 probably.

8:00 this is for my observance. When Gail is flicking through the records you will see that Cliff Richard's 40 Golden Greats Double LP is the 2nd one been flicked through. On that compilation Congratulations is included, now would it of been breaking copyright to play Cliff's version or did they just want to avoid his version altogether?

dont make it like they used to?. now it tends to sensationalise it`s story lines into the realms of incredularity, in order to attract and keep a younger audience. this it does to the distraction of the script, and characters which coronation street was brilliant at producing and portraying.

@matsui2001 or maybe when the originals from the 'golden age' leave so when Ken, Emily, Rita, Betty, Deirdre, Gail leave I guess the show will suddenly drop ratings

I would also have the new gangster family terrorize Ken, Emily, Rita, Betty, Deirdrie and Gail to the point where they moved out of the street either through choice or in a pine box! Perhaps they should have a statue of Ken in the street as he has become part of the furniture.

@MeBenHalpin oh totally, it will also probarly be like Hollyoaks as well, with a death every single week and all the girls will probarly all be proper tarts (not like Elsie Tanner or Bet Lynch, but commercialised ones - if you get my drift). Lets just Corrie will remain the same for another 50 years.

@MeBenHalpin I just said the same thing on another Coronation Street upload. I am sick of all these bits of teenage kids being thrown in to soaps to try and attract a 'teen' audience, nearly all of them can't act. You will never be able to please everybody and attract everybody as an audience, they should leave HollyOaks for teen viewers and leave Coronation Street for the adults like it used to be. It used to focus more on adults, now its stupid teenagers.

The trouble with programmes such as corrie and emerdale is the story lines have been made to be cut short for adverts, unlike eastenders who has got the pleasure to build good storys.
