After 1974, Irma disappeared into thin air. She didn't visit her mother, or attend her father's funeral. Where did she go?

Sandra Gough who played Irma was sacked from Corrie in 1971. Apparently she had asked to be written out to care for her ailing mother but the producers wouldn't let her have time off so she just upped and left and never went back so she got sacked.
