Ken was absolutely right about times changing.; in this day and age, it's almost frowned upon to raise your hand to a child. I don't think he was being unsympathetic to Rita; he was just trying to think logically about the situation, which is frustrating but necessary. Given what he went through with Aiden Critchley, he was absolutely right to warn Rita about it the repercussions of physically punishing a child.
