John Stape is my all time favorite soap character. He has depth and substance, and I genuinely rooted for him. Yes, he was flawed but he was a good man at heart.

@@stars63964 He didn't set out to kill anyone. He killed Charlotte in the heat of the moment and Joy Fishwick was manslaughter - he showed a lot of guilt and remorse over both deaths. Yes he was an idiot to steal Colin's identity and kidnap Rosie and yes he should have rung the police when Colin died but he is not evil or cold blooded. In Daphne Du Maurier's Rebecca, the main protagonist killed his first wife and yet he is one of my favourite characters.

I am now that I know the whole story and when I watched everything properly, Rosie and Colin Fishwick were the cause of John’s Downfall’s. Both of them had affairs with it being their idea’s which John got f**king caught in the crossfire I think.

@@stars63964 John Stape was not an evil man. Out of the two people he killed one was in the heat of the moment and the other was manslaughter. We know he showed guilt and remorse which led to sleeplessness and a mental breakdown. I agree that his actions were wrong and that he got himself into this mess but he wasn't cruel or malicious - as such I can still care about him and be sorry that he ruined his life. He should really have been killed off via suicide at this point though the twist at the end did give a sense of mystery. Some of the best characters are flawed. Raskolnikov in Crime and Punishment was a fascinating character though in his case the violence of his crimes made me more uncomfortable despite the guilt he showed.
