mel grant There is more to life than ‘making profits’. There is a massive risk that comes with the profession. Many independent family-owned funeral homes are lowering their costs because they feel as if the service they are able to offer to these grieving families is insufficient.

@@exhibit_evolution about time they lowered their costs I should think. Of course they make profit. Maybe not so much at the moment. But we will soon be back at the usual average 4000 pounds plus basic funerals. Prices need to be capped by the government. Rip off.

Alan Watts Where we live it’s around £10,000 as it is £5,000 to open the hole in the ground to put a body in and another £5,000 for the rest of the stuff. That’s a pretty economical funeral too. Jeez.

Why are they “struggling with the numbers” when the numbers aren’t even anywhere near what they are for normal influenza deaths any given year? (500,000 on average deaths) it seems weird we cannot cope despite not even being close to the usual numbers yet.

Undertakers probably top profession at the moment. Very endearing , a reference to a diseased as a new arrival. So it is business as usual cylinder hats and frocks on. A bit like everyone getting a Royal funeral, perhaps they ought to hire a taxidermist to assist clearing the '' backlog''. Nothing like a bit of levity right now it is the only comfort those poor professionals can afford at this grim and assaying time.
