The number of infected people from COVID-19 has raised above one million. The quarantine in Moscow has been extended until the end of April 2020 and the most optimistic prognosis, shows that the decline of the coronavirus will not be probable until fall.
Coronavirus has come to our homes and now this threat does not seem as far away and harmless as it used to be.
All we can do is to sit and wait until it will overtake us. Or... not? Maybe everything is not as scary and hopelessly as it seems?
Today I will try to look at the situation from an open-minded point of view and explain why we should take coronavirus very seriously,
.
But do not panic, after all, house quarantine is bad enough already.
Let’s start from Italy. This country is suffering (at time of recording) the most from the pandemic: 120 thousand infected and almost 15 thousand fatalities is a very scary number. Especially taking into consideration, that the virus is transmitted from human to human via airborne droplets.
And this is far from being complete numbers. Health Care systems are full to their capacity, and medics don’t have enough time to keep a track of all the cases of those infected.
After all, there are many patients and they need to be helped now, not to wait for numbers to be calculated.
With this in mind, the medics are saints and they are not be blamed for this disadvantage. .
But the journalists are something else! Due to the journalists lack of medical understanding, they easily interpret the statistics however they want, thus they print false information to the masses and that dirt may well be convincing, if, you top it with the right topping.
If we’ll take the number of infected in Italy and just divide that by the number of deaths from the virus, we’ll get a 12% mortality rate, that is ever higher than the percentage from the SARS outbreak in 2002-2003.
However, in this very moment we can look at Italy’s neighbor; Germany and see completely different numbers.
Mortality rate there is just over one percent, which is 11 times lower than the percentage in Italy.
And if we’ll take a look at Israel, we will understand that there, the mortality rate is slightly higher than half a percent.
Why does it happen? Is someone hiding something from us? Or maybe those “evil” jews once again know something we don’t? (sarcasm)
Sure, creation of conspiracy theories is very fun, but I wouldn’t recommend to fall for that. World conspiracies can wait, and for the rest of us, let’s figure it out why there is such a difference in mortality rates.
