The build quality + awesome batterty life makes up for the additional $200.

Excellent review Ray! To get into the map without loading a course you can hold the bottom right button in an activity and select "map" without actually leaving the activity. It's not great because you can't jump back and forth from the map view quickly since it doesn't become a data page but in a pinch you could still view it while your mid-activity. Nice work as always! Looks like you've been spending lots of time on the trails!
@Dcrainmaker3 жыл бұрын
Yup indeed. The good news is that COROS says they're looking to add the map data page as a standard-issue field without routes. As you noted, you can do the toolbox option, but it's cumbersome and also resets your zoom each time to way high up, so it's kinda hard to use.

I get the price is high, but really the reason people pay big money for watches like this over a plastic watch with similar, if not more mature features, is ultimately the same reason people have paid big money for watches long before they became smart... materials, craftsmanship, bullet proof finishes, and ultimately, how many times someone says "that's a killer looking watch bro"... I've tried every single one of Garmin's latest watches to replace my aging F3 HR, and while sure I like the better sensors and sleep metrics and V4 HR sensor of the venue 2, the 955, I just couldn't get excited about putting them on every day. So for those of us who are not climbing mountains every weekend, or running full iron mans, this watch is very tempting, as it's freaking awesome looking. Also, the larger screen is a big plus for these aging eyes. I can remember when I got my Fenix 3, I'd get a nice watch comment weekly. While the watch is still my favorite watch of all time, those days are gone (it still looks cool, but it's pretty scratched up/grey, sans the sapphire screen) and I never once got complements with any non metal watches. The Suunto 7 garnered a few, but it was truly a horrible experience with Wear OS and half day battery. Thus, I'll likely plunk down the money for this new big screen diamond studded bracelet, optimistic Coros improves some of the caveats in time. Also, many other reviewers did note a small improvement over Garmin's RE GPS accuracy, so I suspect if you are often in challenging tracking areas, this is best-in-class, and as Ray says, competitors are likely to follow suit. The music loading looks clunky ( sounds like Coros didn't/couldn't pay the big bucks to Spotify and others to integrate services), the HR sensor is probably not perfect, and the maps hopefully someday will at least include trail names, but as a mountain biking, roadie, and cross fit enthusiast: HR straps are still vital (particularly for intervals), one giant downloaded playlist is a good enough fit, and a watch will never fully supplement a bike PC for things like power (indoor or out). So the only question for me is: which color garners more "what type of watch is that bro!?!?!" comments??
@razznote75866 ай бұрын
I agree, Garmin is too pricey for those extra features above the COROS V2. Seems that this is the sweet balance between build quality, battery life and price. Thanks! Yeah, I think the sapphire display/glass bit is a tricky one. I think it's more of a personal aesthetic thing. I didn't get a way to fit it into the video (or post, now that I think of it), but to me the Vertix 2 doesn't have quite the same level of material fit/polish that we've seen from Suunto or Garmin's most recent units. Meaning, it reminds me a lot of Garmin's first Fenix edition (Fenix 1) - where it was like "Oh yeah, that looks nice compared to before", and then a 'watch person' comes along and makes you realize it's missing that next level of polish (compared to what we see in a Fenix 6 for example). I bet some company could break into our sport and make a dint in the Garmin dominated market. I feel like Coros did that with Ultra running. Currently it doesn't feel like Coros is super interested but damn that Pace 2 is an affordable option for triathletes. 🤷🏻♂️

Super disappointing about this new release. As a Chinese, I've been really proud seeing Coros capturing the market in the past years with it's unique advantages, budget friendly and impressive battery life. It's really sad to see that they deciced to do what Chinese campanies have been notorious for, direct copying from Garmin and then mark up the price. Hope they will keep their business practices honest and rely on making good products for sales instead of marketting.

Great review! Sounds like it's all a bit meh. Rather, it only encourages me to wait it until Garmin's big releases

Man, I was excited about this watch until you mentioned it doesn't have ANT+. Dead on arrival for me. I do too much indoor riding not to have a watch that doesn't have ANT+. It's a must if you wanna pair that power meter with your iPad and the watch at the same time. Again, I love this watch and it was definitely a contender to replace my Garmin. Especially because of the touchscreen perk when using the maps. But I guess I'll just keep my 945 for a weeee longer.

Lot of Debbie Downer after all the initial excitement of the release 😢. Much different vibe from @Chase the Summit.

Sorry! The cool part about different KZbinrs is each having our own views. As a triathlete/cyclist I'd have a different perspective than a trail runner (Chase), and we'd in turn have a different perspective than a climber, and so on...

I'm actually disappointed. A bigger watch for more $$$. Not what I was looking for. At all. Think about that. The equivalent to Garmin releasing the Fenix 7 and saying. The only Fenix 7 model we're releasing this year is the Fenix 7X. And it starts at 700$. Sorry guys. No smaller or cheaper versions. You're shit out of luck! I think Coros missed the mark on this. By that being only having the one model/size and the price. And this was not the "game changer" Coros was/is claiming. I'm calling it now, this is not going to be a huge seller.

so basically fenix 6x pro price and worse set of features. No routing, komoot, strava, worse "community" etc. No ant+, no support for spotify etc. that's not good :/
