""A" engine is the reason for a lot of issues, going from the poly head to a traditional wedge on basically the same block caused a lot of issues mainly the center exhaust and push rod pinch point.
@aaronbarnes89382 жыл бұрын
I Just sold a set of these after having them ported and with a 2.02 1.60 undercut valve setup they flow a peak of 310@.600.

18* valve angle helps some, the exhaust port shape and pushrod pinch are the weaknesses, as mentioned.

They are better than factory stock cast iron heads. The EQ cast iron head flowed as good or better with a 1.94” intake valves.

The chamber is a mix of magnum and 302 casting mopar chamber shapes. They make offset rockers, but you have to re-drill the head for w-2/w-5 pushrod locations.

I am really unimpressed with the speed something head. They need a lot of work! Currently I am working on a set of 5.9 magnum heads and luckily I have an extra set of junk heads to experiment with. Hopefully by the time I get done messing with the junk heads I will know somewhat what I am doing before I start on the good set. Also not a fan of direct injection for that very reason. Carbon buildup in the intake port and valve. Need to run a catch can to help but it still is not a cure. Good video! Keep them coming!

318 or 340 are where these heads are best. Pushrod angle from the lifters forces pinch point nearer the gasket, and there's a limitation. Compared to sbc, I think the LA blocks look like a raised cam tunnel. After flowing that LT head... you want to saw it? Might help some porters out there.

I saw a head porting video where a Planimeter was used to measure port cross section. There are KZbin videos on how to use them.

Alot of the cheaper aluminum castings and intake manifolds are rough castings that are shipped from, you know where, and are so called semi finished castings that you cant run fresh out of the box, cylinder heads are better off letting you favorite machine shop install valve guides , seats and the best valves you can buy. There are several companies in the US that are 110% made in the states and Brodix is one of the best

I have a nice 2001 ram single cab 1500. Gas mileage is only 13 so I was told To improve anything about the 318 magnum I need a cam and a 500$ tuner from Hughes. I also looked into these Speedmaster heads but they weren’t even in stock. It seems the cost to improve my truck is comparable to building a new sprint car engine but I would only end up with 400 hp after spending a ton of money . If you could reply with a suggestion of a better plan I would love your input. The other option is a Nissan Altima and a sprint car to feed my need for speed, lol !!!

The best stock small block mopar heads from factory was the #308 ca a ting and stock flows 210 on the intake. With alot of major issues. The exhaust ports are shipped better than those speedmaster heads. With a raised port and better ssr. I don't think it would be an issue to get those #308 heads to 280cfm for a professional porter. But I understand that you do not do iron.

Will back cutting exhaust valves help in a turbo motor regardless of lift? Or does the .450 lift "rule" apply there as well? Or maybe it hurts at all lifts due to increased back pressure? Thanks.

At 18:23 Why do you flow Test the Intake port With a Clay Radius ?? .....Sure, it's Usually going to flow More than No Radius but almost All out engines Have some type of Intake Runner,.....So wouldn't a Radius on a Pipe Length (something approximating an Intake manifold Runner) be a more Accurate/Realistic flow test Simulation ?? Maybe the intake port flows the Same With a Runner pipe, IDK .....

@JT-ko3rv2 жыл бұрын
450 or so pretty easy untouched more is possible on a good enough shortblock. They are not a performance head as cast they are a stock replacement head, just like the edelbrocks they copied. Touch better than stock heads as cast.
@knight03342 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately us Mopar guys don't have the selection that the Chevy folks have. Going by what I've seen of factory heads, those flow better. Then factor in that many of the good factory heads are going for premium prices where you risk buying one/two that are warped or cracked.

The majority of aftermarket Chrysler heads leave a lot to be desired. A cast iron W2 from Chrysler from the mid 70s will bury most of today's small block offerings, including a number of Chrysler big block heads. If you want to go fast with a small block MOPAR, grab a set of W8 heads and have them done correctly. 400+ on the intake side and 1000+ hp potential with a cast single 4.
@ericschumacher51892 жыл бұрын
I still think a well designed sent of headers (using PipeMax first) for the 406 and tuning in the length of the header extensions on the dyno would pick up most of the torque you lost. I'm NOT trying to be a naysayer (just trying to help), and am hoping you don't have to swap the cam to see the gains you were expecting.

@@WeingartnerRacing would you consider either Trick Flow or Edelbrock as probably the best of the bunch?
@dannyfasttcars86127 ай бұрын
@@andrewtreloar7389 Edelbrock RPm's are considered entry level ,trick flow are next step up, then Mopar W-2's even tho untouched they flow less but have a more potential with the offset rocker eliminating PP. Next up are Indy-2 oval then - 2 rectangle l. Next up are Mopar W-7 then W-9 n last W-8(prefered for max performance over the 9's. W-8's can flow a full Double what stock 340/360 heads do. Near the top are also Edelbrock Victor's which are on par with W'8 potential. All the top ones will have to big of intake valves for a 318 without a big bore notch but mainly have way more potential than the stock blocks can even handle reliably in N/A form. Ported RpM's/trick flow/W-2's are good choices for under 600 HP Indy's 600-700hp. For reliability we like to stick under a true 600hp N/A(enough for 9's @3100lbs with any of the stock blocks.

Head castings may be OK for a street build but I'd never use procomp valves/springs/retainers etc. I'd buy all domestic hardware to finish them off. I think procomp hardware is all mode from recycled chinese pushbikes.
