Great video. However, correlation can be non-linear if we use, for example, Spearman's coefficient. I believe the first figure has no correlation not because the relation is non-linear, but rather because the data does not display any trend.

how do you determine the STRENGTH of correlation by looking at the plot, then? by judging how STEEP the slope?

Strength is determined by how close the points are in a pattern. The closer the points are together in forming a line, the stronger the correlation. The strength and the slope are not related.

However, the method does not allow such a statement. At best, the authors could mention that the variables are associated or related."
