Damn David has been through a lot of the past 20 + years. Dad left, Stepdad being a murderer, almost being killed by his step dad, being disowned and dealing with drugs, brother nearly being killed by a tram, his brother sleeping with his wife, causing his brothers brain damage, everything with Callum, his wife dying in his arms, nearly killing his daughter, being raped and having PTSD, being sent to prison, his new partner being the mother of his wife’s murder, Shona brain damage, and max misbehaving causing more stress on top of that!

The thing about David’s suicide attempt is that he meant it. But instead used it to ruin Sarah’s wedding. At 2:36:30 when he was writing his note he was crying, and at 2:52:58 before he drove into the canal he looked scared to do it but ended up driving into the canal. David meant to kill himself used it to ruin the wedding. At 2:31:44 he got the idea of suicide and at 2:36:14 when he heard that Martin wasn’t going to the wedding he drove away from his house in his uninsured Ford Fiesta. It was his last idea to ruin the wedding

Exactly what I thought. And when he asked Gail to help him, she literally said she had "given up", which is the last thing you say to a child who asks for help. It did appear to me that he loathed himself as well as everyone else, and, to an extent, he may have even been scared of himself and what he was capable of (cuz he mostly feels anger and is often driven by it)

I've watched David Platt over the years, and I *think* I've finally cracked it: the reason why David is the way he is. First is the obvious factor: age. David was only 12 when Richard Hillman drove him into the canal, so it likely affected him more than others (as opposed to Gail who was an adult, Sarah who was 16, and Beth who was 2 so she didn't really understand what was going on). But now here's my *theory* on how it all began: on 26 August 1991 (when David was only eight months old), Nick accidentally hit David really hard on the head with a cricket bat. That probably caused a personality change within David and likely made him much more susceptible to later traumas than other people. He became vile and dangerous as the years went on. All his later traumas were just the icing on the cake. It also explains how he "never felt better" after what he had gone through. At one point, David even tried to kill Macca after the trauma he had undergone. It also explains why David *still* has recurring nightmares of Richard Hillman driving him into the canal, despite it being so many years ago. I don't think this was even the writer's intention, and I know I may be reaching, but I roll with it because it makes the most sense. He is, in my opinion, the greatest and most interesting character in Corrie. It's indisputable for me.
@knack3041 Жыл бұрын
Love this
@simonzonenblick395 Жыл бұрын
Very interesting theories! Certainly makes a lot of sense as you say, though if it wasn't the writers' intention we can't believe it as a part of the story. I'm not one of David's defenders as I find him an almost singularly devious, vindictive and bullying character, but that doesn't mean he wasn't traumatized by the things that happened to him and it isn't necessary to like someone to acknowledge this. My own theory is that some of his behaviour relates directly to having been trapped in the car, first in the garage then as they drove into the water. I feel this implanted in him a permanent sense of being trapped, and that his skipping school and sabotaging his exams may have been to do with wanting to exert control over his own life, to escape from the framework set by others, even when escaping this is to his own disadvantage. Conversely, getting himself arrested and doing things he knows will result in him spending a night in the cells etc may be a way of running to security and authority from the big wide world in which he feels powerless. Admittedly, none of this would mitigate his cruelty to others,nor does it explain any of his later actions such as those in the period seen here.

3:13:25 i think Sarah feels upset for some guilt about David in this scene. She sounds distraught when she speaks, I think she’s realised what she’s done to David and has realised that she’s taken it too far and now her brother was probably dead, she realised that David’s threat and final voicemail and note wasn’t a joke but an actual suicide note as him driving his own car into the same exact canal that their stepfather drove them into to kill them years before wouldn’t be a joke at all, She knew that she messed up as David wasn’t joking this time.

I’ve never taken his crying seriously. I don’t think he’s a character who’s supposed to be sympathised with when he’s playing up.

@@dollsvx yes, PLEASE !!! While I understand that he is the "new and improved" David because of the current storyline with Shona, there are times when I miss the old reckless David. I suppose it's all because of the days/times of now, where David has matured into a new, mature person, but there are definitely times where I miss the sarcastic, sharp wit of how David used to be 🙅

@@4whealDavid lost all trust in Gail after Richard Hillman. She let a soon-to be murderer into her home and introduced him to her kids. Richard’s actions led trauma onto David and it was strong enough to have David recreate his ordeal 4 years ago but behind the wheel of his own car instead of being a tied up passenger in the family car.
