Corrieyairack, bikepacking with dogs in Scottish Highlands

The General Wade road was finished in 1731. The Corrieyairack pass is the highest 770 m high se ction of it joining the Speyside with Great Glen. It's an old track now used by walkers and bikers.
Our 50 mile overnight route went from Kinloch Laggan over Melgarve and Corrieyairack pass to the bothy Blackburn of Corrieyairack. Second day down to Fort Augustus and down south to Spean bridge by Great Glen way. 90% of the route was off road. We had to drop off first day early morning the bike and trailer in Kinloch Laggan on the way to Spean bridge where we left the car. Then we went back 25 miles to Kinloch Laggan by hitchhiking. It took us 40 minutes untill one car stopped. That was only the first problem.. I was also worried whether bike with trailer will cope over hard and stony section of the Corrieyairack pass. However as we reached the mountains we could clearly see that the most challenging will be to deal with the unexpected amount of snow in the pass....:-]

Watching this was like reliving a nightmare! I walked it a few years ago, from Fort Augustus to Newtonmore over two days. Punishing east wind in my face and relentless sun. Full pack. Hard work! Wouldn't want to do it on a bike.

I can imagine it can get really hard in bad conditions up there. I had good weather but my problem in the pass was the amount of snow. It was more than expected. I do these trips for feeling after:-] Cheers

I'm blown away by what you achieved. A lot of videos you see of bike packing, there on flipping expensive bikes with somebody else doing the camera work. You had two dogs, a trailer, Halfords Carrera mountain bike (which is far from light) , a loaded backpack, as well as your own food all the dog food, bowls, etc, then biked up a mountain, at some point with both dogs in the trailer, at the same time having to stop put the camera in position, back track on yourself, so you can get them great shots to entertain us lot. Amazing, Incredible.

You should see my mountain bike I had before this one😁 This orange Carrera [it cost £200 as a used one a few years back] is now finished so I may search a second hand market for another one soon. For my road cycling trips I've got 68 years old vintage Moulton deluxe bike🙂 Yeah filming is a hard work.. and this trip was a real challenge for us. That snowy Corrieyairack was a hell🤣

what a joy to watch Jonas, I remember some years ago, we had a day on the hills and a night down at Drummin, just below Melgarve and whilst sitting to our tea, there was a knock at the door - a Canadian couple who had just 'followed the Corriarrick road from the other side' on bikes. The fella was quite sheepish and the lassie had the look of, 'bloody road you said!.' We held onto our knives just in case she decided to seek revenge on the fella. Was really funny and they still had another ten miles to get to Laggan. Aye good and fun days indeed. Never been to Blackburn but did an overnight at Glenbuck which is not a great distance from Blackburn.

Thank you Willie. Yeah some people especially foreigners on holiday may easily underate some routes here. Scottish hills don't look very high on the map but reality is often very different. Just found Glenbuck on map, never knew about that one. Cheers.

Haha, love the doggie carry and how enthusiastic, excited puppies you have there, I bet they just love the freedom and the adventure with you, and when they get a little tired, they can just sit in that trailer and enjoy the travelling :) I am jealous, but indeed im planning on getting some similar setup :)

Thank you. Younger one used to jump out from it while I was riding which was dangerous for her so I had to have top closed but now they are both fine and often looking out at the top when I cycle. I think they enjoy it now.
