Corrin is the Most Important Character in Smash Ultimate

People's perceptions on Corrin's viability have drastically changed since Ultimate first came out in December 2018. Despite all the buffs and her recent success at Super Smash Con 2023, is Corrin as good as everyone makes her out to be? In today's video we're going to have a retrospective and analyse how Corrin has changed in the meta over the past couple of years.

As a Corrin main for the first 2 or 3 years of Smash Ultimate, I managed to get 7th place at a high school esports tournament in March 2020. I guess I was ahead of the curve.

I told people that, after her buffs, she was going to be a meta threat when people start playing her. Of course nobody listened to me and straight up called me stupid. When Smashcon hit, a lot of people kept downplaying Corrin and called her run a fluke, but a lot more people started realizing that Corrin is SUPER good and solo viable. She is now being seen as the high tier (the official tier list is DEFINITELY getting updated and Corrin is making it to A tier for sure). I wish the rude people admitted that they were wrong about me and my stance on Corrin, but they ended up avoiding me instead. Prior to all of the results coming in, people were telling me to drop Corrin because "she's bad." I thought this was stupid because I nearly beat Fatality with her on the same day (post-buffs of course). She has amazing tools and they click so well with my playstyle. It makes zero sense to me how, even after Smashcon, people still want me to drop Corrin and think she's bad. I find it relatively frustrating how I am literally being told to drop viable characters... for other viable characters that don't fit my style at all. I watch tournament VODs and commentators were straight up insulting Corrin mains and constantly downplaying her in favor of the players playing top tiers like Wolf and Min Min (who Corrin beats). It was all so frustrating. Even so, I see a lot more Corrin mains now, and they are all very good. Corrin is a great character to have as a main or as a secondary. I love whipping her out when my Marth isn't feeling it (she also deals with certain match-ups better than Marth can). The character duo is great and I want to push them further. Great video!

I definitely think she is one of the more important characters, but not just because she is GREAT. Corrin was so unexplored, even after her buffs, that people consistently wrote her off. Shadic, Ly, Leo, and Neo picking up Corrin, finding her insane new strengths, and developing them, is incredibly telling. There are so many other characters that are unexplored and underdeveloped, despite receiving massive buffs. Marth is one of them and I am tired of pretending like he is bad. I've been learning so much about the Hero-King that it is now physically impossible to drop him for anyone else lol. Landing tippers is WAY easier now, and there are so many tricks and techniques to boost the consistency. People never believe me when I say I land consistent tippers, until they play against me or watch some of my videos. I literally got on my College Esports team by defeating several notable GA players with Marth during tryouts, and I nearly took games off of some PR players like Jax and Gregorian with Marth. He will go through the same thing as Corrin in a little bit.

I think as of right now, thanks to the meta, corrin is getting way better due to how she has the tools to beat some of these top tier characters running the game competitively, and now the corrin players who have been putting in work are coming out and performing well, also shoutouts to all the corrins fr, the goats 🗣️

I like the idea how people say she isn't that important in the current meta but many are actually seeing the potential in her. It feels the same way with Mid to Low Tier characters. I main Isabelle since launch and there was so much to Isabelle that not many understand. While I understand she has a lot of bad MUs and put her way down to High Low Tier but to those labbing her and finding techs and movesets on her, there is a chance she'll be consider favorable by many in the future. As a uprising Isabelle Main, I am still finding new ways to making her go up the charts and hoping to land my spot as one of the best out there. I have placed almost Top 8s numerous time just with Isabelle and using secondaries to cover up her bad MUs as soon as I find ways around them. In the long run, if anyone can find ways to make Corrin look like an unbeatable character, it is the same with a lot of characters on the roster.

Calling a character the "most important" is just an agenda at this point. With all the results seen so far I think Corrin went from a low-mid tier to a mid high tier. She is a character that is solo viable and her counters aren't really that great either. However, as any character, I think part of Corrin recent success is that people forgot about her and she is taking advantage of that. Once people start to figure her out again, I think she will fall a little bit in the placements.

I’ve been a corrin main since before she was even announced on smash lol, I played fire emblem fates a lot, She’s always been a character under the radar and I liked it like that Idk if it’s just me but now that Leo and spargo use her everyone says they’re good Not saying she’s a bad character at all but this is the byleth situation again, everyone says she’s bad, Leo used her, suddenly everyone says she’s great I wish corrin had stayed as an undercover type of character😓

Definitely thought it was MKLeo styling at first but as the meta devolps and I get better at the game I can see it's absolutely true Corrin is an A tier character with godlike counterpick capabilities. Winning against steve, kazuya, and fairing well into sonic is so valuable in todays meta. Gives swordie players an answer to otherwise very annoying matchups.

After SHADIC make the Legendary run at LMMM. I'm pretty sure Corrin stocks is at all time high right now. And we just need to see SHADIC performance at Port Priority. Will the stock keep risisng? Or will it turn stagnant after awhile?

@@imSBF Shadic not only beat Spargo at S Factor(home turf) of all places in the way he did, but was among the top 3 finishes at Supernova along with the other two best of NA in a new trinity. Insane.

I don’t think it’s harsh to say that Corrin isn’t coming back in another Smash Game, considering there are plenty of other FE reps more popular than a character from a rather infamous game, so it feels great to see them leave a legacy into the series by being able to take on the greater leagues in the meta. It’s quite poetic when you remember Corrin was promoted for smash around the same time as Bayonetta in Smash 4.

Corrin is actually one of the most popular FE characters of all time. She has the most Alt in FE Heroes. She won the popularity poll in the official Nintendo poll. Fates itself is the second highest selling FE game. If you want to cut FE characters from smash. It's probably Robin or Roy. Robin cause he's not that popular. Roy cause he has the worst selling game in the franchise out if the one in smash cause Leif is not in Smash. And that's only if they will cut FE characters. It's a Nintendo IP. So there's no reason to cut them!!!
