Corrosion Repair and Spraying Aston Martin DB9 Part 1

In this video we have a Aston Martin DB9 in for corrosion repair to the nearside rear quarter panel, its quite a common problem with these all aluminium body DB9s
It has a problem with corrosion on the C pillar which requires the rear screen and rear interior to be removed and some corrosion on the wheel arch
We show the amount of work that has to undertaken for such a small amount of corrosion and the ways we can prevent this from coming back in the future
Also being a colour that has very course metallic colour we have to blend a lot of panels for this repair to look right

Oh mate what a great video, & I'm on exactly the same job but on a xk8 the old rusty type & ground all the rusty steel away, what's not there can't oxidize , aqua steel I use t shield oxidation, then brush epoxy into the steel & holes, then fibre glass upol where the metal used to be, So anyway so good to watch you do what I do, just gives all a bit more confidence in what we do all the time, Love the show mate & that's a cracking video you've done 👍

Also mate, I've been using mult mix products lately,air dry clear is great, they do 5 ltr epoxy primer kit at good price, ordered some the other day thinking id ordered high build but glad I did now it's proper stuff , check it out

hi mate 1998 lightining silver paint code 1111, and then it changed 2008 5054D both look totally different on lechler the earlier one is more blue and on my scheme its spelled lightining see if you get anything come up spelled like that 👍👍👍

Thanks for that mate, i got the code from Aston in the end and it was 5054D, i only had one of them on Mipa and it was 5054D but was spelled Lighting Silver 🤣🤣🤣Nightmare, i was tempted to get it mixed in my old scheme, Octoral, but went with what i had on Mipa, it wasn't the best. I had a Lechler scheme a few years ago but was having colour issues with it so they took it back and i went on Octoral, but ive heard its improved massively now, i carried with all their other products tho, Green Ti primer is great and i was using Megalak UHS for years, it was a great price and the gloss was mega but it took about 2 months to full cure but i never had any issues with it and ive seen jobs 2-3 years later and still look good, we painted the front end on my sons car a couple of years ago with it and still looks alright , i do love Lechler 👍👍👍

Forgot too mention i find the novol spectral line great for these types of jobs . I'm close to painting the Daimler i've got in just got it into spectral 385-00 primer ready for light flat then base and clear.

Yeah I’ve heard good things about spectral, I used one of the clear coats for a while can’t remember what it was but it would dry in about 15 mins at 60 degrees, was really good 👍 i remember it was 2-1 with no thinner

Aston Martins are a pain to match , no codes 🤬. Its looks like that car has had plenty off paint before. I had an older one in a few months ago and had a nightmare with it had to paint the bonnet three times silicones everywhere for some reason the other panels i painted were ok. One upside the colour was good. I never give a garantee on corrosion. Your doing a great buddy 👍👍👍👍

Yeah they can be a pain seems like some paint companies can’t be bothered when I comes to some manufacturers like Aston, probably there’s a lot a variation from factory in their colours and not as consistent as bigger car makers, also some of the mid range/cheaper paint companies don’t have their users come across these types of cars as often Mipa seem to have given up when it comes to Jag colours on my system for some reason, never any colour chips, only one shade and most have ‘blending recommend’ at the top of the formula 😂 Ah man I hate silicone in my jobs its the worst thing to happen, so annoying after all the effort you go to to get it to that stage Did you work out where it came from

I never found out what caused the silcones probably me picking up a contaminated microfibre cloth . I cleaned everything up and started to use anti - silicone drops and its working.@@TheHumblePaintSprayer333

its actually the metalic flake, as it changes the look layer upon layer, so no two spray jobs look the same unless you do it the exact same way they did at the factory, and their should be paint codes, as I found out well, the bentley boys kinda steal paint codes from deutchland uber alis, so knowing aston martin, look for the ford codes and it should be in the Vin or the spec sheet, heck maybe even the manual, as Mclaren is the dodgy one, aston they made tons of cars when they got bought out by ford, key thing is to find one who made the paint, two how did they spray it, then with what, and then copy it by testing out your spray technique until you can match it on a test sheet maybe even contact that guy that does harry's jag, as he took them an aston martin, and had them match the color, slightly modify it and then put it on his jag at painting classic cars in Eastbourne and also when blending for a small area, you basically have to go a foot out in every direction to properly blend it into the paint, which is why in movies and tv shows, they almost always go for a solid to hide that, heck it was the reason they resprayed this really beautiful nero daytona ferrari which is a black metalic with a purple hue somehow, this really really beautiful color that should have Never Ever been touched creme white for a tv show back in the 80's, that was actually the same white they used on the knight rider trailer back in 82' for some of the very first episodes in the season which is why its got this god awful brown tint to it that makes it look like it needs a polish. and yet everyone always goes for straight white and misses that while actually ironically making it look good unlike the actual thing lol kinda not unlike the Bond DB5 too where they go for champaign silver, silver berch, an ugly brown tinted silver, instead of the normal straight bright silver they used on the actual car, for the stand in car in the new bond films, given it was a quick respray job after they cut the hole in the roof on a dark red and dark blue interiored car that was actually first seen on the saint of all things and to think that idiot who owns the only survivor had it resprayed wrong so even that doesnt look right now. so much so that when harry metcalf and his son saw it they thought it was a replica, kinda ironically validating my point that I said to the guys doing it way back when which wasnt their fault, as the owner was an idiot who should have left it alone, as it even still had the grill damage from driving into the wall in goldfinger still on it! which you can NOT replicate, same thing with the battered look it got from that which noticibly showed as that was the only car they used in thunderball. while the only one that does besides the stolen one, was actually connery's last car which Ben Collins covered on his channel that they sold at auction to benefit a school or something as per his wishes which was actually quite brilliant really, get it fully restored, better than it ever was new, with the italian job like paintjob and set up, bright silver on red interior and then sell it off for charity at the end of it like he was always keen on doing way back when to begin with
