@@Citizen_Kate i honestly don't see how you make it work. I constantly bug out and find my ship at the opposite of the system, or it gets destroyed, or what have you. Like, I'm struggling to keep a backup shirt and pants consistent on a ship, while you maintain so much more. Hooow? You either do everything you could possibly think of to avoid glitches or you constantly have to ask for help to get back to your ship - or am I wrong? Either way, the effort to keep it going is well appreciated!

This is great, because goes to show that the msr isn't a stand your ground type of medium ship (unless you're really punching down), which this helps to highlight. It also highlights that despite being a brick with engines on it, the Corsair will ruin your day if its guns align

@@gyratingwolpertiger6851 Yes it does. Task Force Foxtrot was testing this concept of using two or three MSR's as a high speed mobile anti starfighter screen. Testing is ongoing. The idea only works with the right pilots. It does work though. The MSR is basically a beefier version of the Hurricane.

@@sloh888 Any more than one person would get thrown off, and railguns wouldn’t be able to shoot through your own shields. I watched my org mates try having two people up there with railguns. Also, the elevator eventually will come down on its own, forcing the one person up there to keep bringing themselves back up.

Well did expect nothing different. But after all the mercury is called starRUNNER and thats the reason why I Stil kept mine as I want to do some illegal cargo and as a daily driver its agility and speed is more importantthan firepower if you want to run away from threats to avoid cargo anyway. But either way really enjoying your vids lately keep it up!

I wonder if just running in a straight line would have worked for these engagements. Stay just out of gun range and use the turrets to blast at incoming missles from the Corsair, then decouple, turn the nose to the Corsair and spam them with missles. Of course the Drake has 5 times the shield of the MSR so you'd probbly run out of missles before taking them down.

Just wanted to put this up to answer the most commonly raised point in the comments here - yes totally we knew this would be one sided fight going in - The MSR has no reason to stick around and fight. we know this lol. but it was specifically requested by a commentor on one of the other fight videos and they were so enthusiastic about asking we wanted to put it together anyway :) and well it was still worth seeing just how much the extra maneuvering and speed of the MSR would play into the fight. We are just regular players I have no doubt that you are much better at piloting and gunning than we are so your results may vary - but these are just how our fights turned out ;)

I suppose it is called the Mercury Star RUNNER for a reason. It can easily outrun a Corsair, but I don't think it is designed to survive a fight against one. Thanks for testing it out!

I was so torn watching this. I still love my MSR, but I find myself always choosing my Corsair since it was released. That said, I would never take my MSR into a VHRT, while I’ve already finished several in the Corsair. Great series! Keep ‘em coming!

Mount ADB5 ballistics and you can kill ERTs with the Corsair, if the server is laggy enough for the HHs to miss most of the time ;)

Thanks for more videos on this subject! Always good to see. I think the Star Runner is in the right spot, I mean, it has the word "runner" in it's name! It has the firepower to shoot down a chasing fighter pilot and the speed to run from a single Corsair. The Corsair needs wingmen to chase, but to also help against lighter targets which is exactly where it should be. Against a target this size that is meant to run it is a very one sided fight indeed!

Yea. I agree with this. The MSR's guns are seem to be set in a way where it out guns anything that can keep up with it. This fight wouldn't happen in the verse that much normally i wouldn't think cause the MSR would just turn and burn more than likely.

On the run? Avenger 1 did a video on the MSR, they had it fully crewed and went up against an entire horde of fighters and won. MSR runs exactly far enough to draw one victim away from the crowd, turns, deletes, rinse and repeat. People are so eager to underestimate maneuverability, you can choose exactly whom to fight where and when. Not saying it's a secret pvp beast or something, and the Corsair's guns are definitely a menace, but with plenty of power to the engines and a foot of lead standing firmly on the afterburners, that thing absolutely should have outmaneuvered the Corsair.

haha yes avenger one is a much better pilot than any of us lol - so definately results might be different with a better crew on board. we're mostly ground troop types so all the ship stuff is new to us. we do this because its fun

Awesome vid!!! I'd be curious what type of fight the MSR would have put up if the hull and handling hadn't been nerfed and size 2 shields weren't currently kinda terrible. I still doubt it would have won this ship battle but I'd imagine the score wouldn't have been quite so lopsided. I'd also love to see a ship battle between the Corsair and the Taurus.

This was a fun video to watch even if the outcome was obvious from the title. The Mercury is not a fighter. It's advantages are speed and it's defensive turrets--anything fast enough to keep up with the MSR will not last long if both turrets are manned. That being said, I have both ships in my hangar and can't wait until data running gameplay is implemented.

Being someone who has been awaiting the Corsair for years now, I am thrilled to finally have it in game. I do think they need to address its handling in atmosphere being so atrocious. Considering it has wings which should make it more aerodynamic in atmosphere than it currently is. That and the downward nose drag which I don't think was intended. She has a big "Can" for a rear end and I don't see it being offset that much from the weight on the front end. I am really enjoying your life on a Corsair vids as well. First, awesome to see Drake lovers abroad. The Corsair is a very deliberate design, with one thing emphasized - forward firepower. That poor MSR didn’t stand much of a chance without assistance. There’s just not much it can do except take the Corsair down to atmosphere.

I'm still concerned. The way the new meta has been explained, the multi crew ships may actually be worse off. Their ability to fight hasn't been changed, their ability to disingage and get back into the fight though is gone. Making the fighters chase you at higher speeds is the best way for the gunners to pick them off. If we're limited to a lower SMC speed and can't disengage we're stuck with the same ole, light fighters orbiting us meta.

Never forget freelancer and it's trash combat - that was Chris Robert's idea of balance. He needs to get over the freelancer idea of light fighter combat and realise that while small fighters will have fun combat, they really don't have a place in large multi crew ship combat and are a side show - their only real purpose in a fleet battle would be to take down bombers and small torpedo boats, not to fly in and attack an Idris or javelin directly. But his thinking is very 2 dimensional and he still thinks a fighter jock's place is to buzz about attacking everything

This was always going to be a win for the Corsair, as people tend to forget the utility of the different ships and just focus on the one on one combat aspect, the Mercury does not have the firepower to go toe to toe against it, its a data runner and relies on speed to get out of trouble when the shooting starts and the Corsair just has too many guns to bring to bear when fully crewed. Great job from both crews and excellent vid as always. There are actually 2 ships in the same size large category that I think would be interesting to see, the Corsair vs A2 which is a military ship that is considerably well armed and the Carrack which is also categorized as a large exploration ship but both the A2 and Carrack need a lot more crew complement than the Corsair. Perhaps we can see that in the next vid 😋 But like another commenter said, I'm actually looking forward to more episodes of the life in the Corsair series. 😁

Have you tried changing the behavior of the MSR pilot, on the few images I could see (I could be wrong) he always tries to shoot, but if he concentrated on piloting and on the alignment of at least one (both would be the best but complicate with the angles of this one) turret on the corsair and never shoot, then sneak into the blind spot offered by the double wing, finally try, I see that its so that the MSR has a chance, otherwise there is clearly no match, and escape the only option..

Love the skin on the MSR, what is it? Your initial thought was right - it's a one-sided match up. MSR is severely undergunned or undershielded or both for this class and it's maneuverability doesn't make up for it. Hope CIG improve on this with a rework. Appreciate its not meant for combat, but neither is the 400i or any Conny except the Andromeda, or even the Corsair, and they all have size 3 shields and at least a few size 4 or above guns, so I feel like the MSR will be at a combat disadvantage vs anything in its class. Should be that it gets a size 3 shield and the pilot guns are replaced with gimballed size 3s instead of the 'turret'. At the very least give it a size 3 shield.

I love everything about the Corsair except the wings. I would love to see a fight between a fully repaired Corsair, and one with the wings precisely shot off. I have tried it and it flies just fine. You lose a bit of firepower (and presumably health) but your shields won't be defending such a large area. I don't expect it to win, but I really want to see anyway.

Amazing test video. Bit sad to see the mercery star runner really struggling but it's expected for her role in the verse. (tho for her size she kinda deserves a S3 shield generator) I Would love to see a vanguard warden/sentinel/harbringer vs the corsair. I feel that the vanguard should win but she did get nerfed in her mobility a while back.

Yeah MSR really could use a size 3 shield and maybe even more hp. I think its odd that the MSR feels like it is lacking in so many ways on paper compared to cheaper ships like the Corsair in pretty much everything except speed.

The price of this ship is dictated by a few factors that don’t exist yet in the game, which includes server slots, scanning, and data capacity. Servers slots allow for speciality buffs, scanning is a no brainer, and data capacity allows it to store more data. All of these make her very unique for her size, and and Corsair can’t compete in that regard. She doesn’t need a bigger shield - she shouldn’t be in that fight in the first place.

Will MSR be available to buy after tomorrows end of IAE? I got Corsair and I really want to buy MSR too however I'm a bit short on money. Another question I have (but I think I know answer) is will cutter contain LTI as well after end of IAE? I want to chain few LTI large ships FF from cutters

at some point i feel like CIG is gonna have to decide whether they want maneuvering thrusters to basically be as powerful as main engines or not. Faster and more maneuverable ships don't get much of an advantage when the enemy can keep their nose on you no matter where you go or how fast you get there.

They are two similarly sized ships with very similar profiles. The thing is they are built very differently to a point you need a decent skill gap to overcome the hardware difference between the two. I know this is community driven choices for what ships get pitted together, but the MSR is just not built for this while the Corsair is.

I feel like what is needed to even out these fights is a fly-past as the opening move. In all the videos so far, the corsair has been sitting relatively still and pre-nosing the target that is approaching it. If the rules of the tests were to be that both ships fly past each other (one below and one above) at a set speed, say 180ms, then perform a turn of some sort, the combat phase would present no advantage to either side

Only test that really needs to be done between these two ships is to see it the MSR can escape when/if surprised... that's literally the only thing it should ever be doing when facing a Corsair.

What I would like to see is a video or reference chart online where noobs can have a cheat sheet as to what ships they have a chance against. Green would be ships they should beat, yellow for ships that are closely matched, amber for ships they are likely to lose against and red for ships they have no chance against.

Great cinematics and editing though the result was never in any doubt. The Corsair is a punisher but only to those foolhardy or inexperienced enough to approach it head on. Put a Corsair against any light, medium or heavy fighter with a reasonable pilot and the Corsair is in real trouble, add atmosphere to that equation and you’ve got almost certain defeat. The Corsair is simply incapable of maintaining any positional advantage with a smaller fighter and that is absolutely in keeping with CIG’s design for this ship. It’s a blunt weapon designed to smash anything bigger and slower than itself. Use it for any other combat role and results may vary.

is a technique used by all dev teams whose objective is to always make a little more money. with each new ship of the same type, new tank, new plane you give one or more characteristics superior to the previous one and this will automatically lead to people looking for "the best" a new purchase. CIG has always had this objective and we can see it again this time.

The MSR is a Data RUNNER. This didn't surprise me much at all. Not every ship is meant to be a bare your teeth scrapping fighter and that's ok. MSR has enough guns to swat nuisances off it's back while it tries to wind up and get the hell out of dodge. But as a Corsair owner, I'm heartened to see it representing itself well in these match ups.

The Corsair isn't fast or maneuverable ENOUGH to Orbit a Corsair. Thus it has to stand and punch it it, which it also can't do. Agianst the corsair the MSR's option is to Run. Considering it's a blockade runner that is what it should do. It has this same issue vs the Connie as well. Best to not engage either of those ships. Blow past them to your destination.

The MSR is a runner, if it can run away 100% of the time its engaged, it does its job well. Since its a courier you are basically going to be running away from everything and just focused on getting there. Its like the Road Runner of star citizen.

I think the guy who wanted to add two snubs to the MSR was just a little salty. 🤣 But really the MSR is not a fighter or a gunship. The weapons loadout on the Corsair way outclass the MSR. I'd say these fights went exactly the way I would have guessed. If you want to see the Corsair pop match it against any of the Vanguard ships or the Redeemer would totally eat it maybe even two at a time.

Honestly I feel like the MSR is not a ship that's designed to stand and fight. It's designed to use its turrets and pilot guns to cover itself while it exploits its superior (for its size) maneuverability and straight-line speed to get the hell out of Dodge. The Corsair, on the other hand, is a much more rugged ship designed to operate way out in the middle of nowhere and where it might not be so feasible to run, or at least not necessarily as easy.

I am yes, and the ship we were using (Sticks i ithnk) was also - we've run the fixed size 5s too and they are a lot of fun but i just find i hit more with the gimballed 4's

@Citizen_Kate Kate you run the AD5B when you go fixed have you thought about trying the M7A setup? It's still 1750 dps burst each and I find it easier to land than the shotgun bullet effect of the AD5B. It also has really nice alpha strike to the point you can obliterate fighters in one volley , Which makes it interesting. As a saying goes when fighting fighters with the m7a setup. "You have to be perfect the whole fight , I only have to be perfect once!"

Corsair has no staying power ( health) for me, it's a fun ship but my connie take a bit more damage it appears.

Yeah, the MSR is the only ship in that size still rocking size 2 shields, while all the other larger medium ships have size 3. That being said, the MSR is not a fighting ship. It has 2 manned turrets and a chin turret to defend itself but it's main defense is maneuverability and speed. Anything in its own class can't keep up with it and only light fighters and interceptors can catch it. Just burn straight at full speed and let the turrets cover it's rear end because light fighters can't take sustained fire from size 3's for very long.

I love both ships even though the MSR does have some good firepower it cant compete with the Corsairs brute strength, I still prefer the MSR because it doesn't fly like a brick, but defiantly not something I would be taking into pvp

The msr is a lot like the millennium falcon in the fact that it’s fast and maneuverable especially for a ship of its size, and obviously the manned top and bottom turret. So my thinking is that the msr would be a lot more effective against something like the Corsair if the pilot focused on flying fast and maneuvering hard to stay out of the corsairs frontal firing area and using the turrets to chip away at it with any firing opportunity because the msr’s size 3 guns on the turrets will have a damage advantage over the corsairs size 2 turret guns on the back, and the side turrets don’t have a good field of view in the rear so just stay on its ass

That is what we were trying to do. The Corsair can turn just enough to get around and hit you. With a lot more practice, I think eventually I could pull it off, but everything would have to go perfectly, and usually, that doesn't happen.

The msr needs to hug the corsair or any similar enemy. The farther you are, the less pitch the corsair has to do to keep its nose on you. Gotta get close and hug. Stay tight.

haha i'm not sure i'd be very good as a voice actor - I suffer from Laryngitis Sicca and so even being able to speak is not a guarentee for me some days :D Oh and yes i tihnk if we put the Corsair up against nay fighter it would be eaten alive! especially if it was our raptors in the pilot seats haha
