As thorough as you've been here I will say there are a few sections of this where you probably haven't entirely understood the meaning behind some of these and it feels a little clunky, fixing those in a follow up could be nice!

Definitely, maybe creating your own iceberg with some things that were missed. Like some of the gltiches, going more into the theories that weren't Waluigi. Or things like what dialogue you get if you hack your way into the King Boo fight with Yoshi (which I found interesting when I did that as a kid using an Action Replay)

I think the Waluigi References probably means that there’s a lot of purple around the game, like how in the Rex Room the polka dots on the floor are red (for Mario) green (for Luigi and Yoshi) yellow (for Wario) and purple, possibly for Waluigi, or even in the title screen where the Vs button is red, adventure button is yellow, rec room is green, and the options button is purple

Likely, with the Purple Rabbits originally being a thing before they’re replaced with orange rabbits, purple likely stood for Wario. Yellow would then stand for Yoshi.

I think he was taken out due to being the only one to have not been in a mainline mario game before. Waluigi has only been in the mario spinoff games (mario party, Mario Kart, mario sports, etc). There isn't a single official mario platformer game that has him, even as a non playable character.

Waluigi was definetely thought of at one point during the development. I'd say they wanted to limit the playable characters to 4 people for the multiplayer and they already settled with Yoshi being the main character. I really wish they had Waluigi instead of Yoshi he should of been kept as a NPC like he was in the original game and gives you 1 ups. I remember having dreams about playing as Waluigi in SM64DS man i hate that because of how real it felt.

28:12 All Characters with Wing Cap actually refers to something specific. Look up videos online of the final boss with Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario. When you normally grab the Big Star with Mario, he gets the wing cap and flies around. If you beat the game with the other characters, they also get the wing cap, but they don't fly around

The Jolly Roger Bay painting in DS is based on its appearance in the Japanese N64 version. Also something I noticed one time... The DS igloo is still mostly based on the original layout if you compare the maps, except the floor became water and the walls became the new floor.

for 33:06 I can help translating a few of this symbols. Based on what i see from the video(sorry i cant see some of them clearly) The white tile 雪 means snow, the yellow tile 花 means flower, im not sure about the light blue tile since its not clear Im assuming it’s 水 which means water but it could also be 冰 which means ice, light brown tile 木 means wood, Brown tile 土 means earth, green tile 草 means grass. Im guessing they are places to test the sound efects for when the characters walk on different textures.

The igloo part is about the interior, not the exterior. The interior had to be redesigned because the DS can't render multiple layers of transparency, which the old igloo had. That's the same reason why they changed the ice maze star into just a couple of ice cube stacks. It would be hard to navigate a space like that if you can't see where the walls are.

Great vid, man! Glad I could help! I do have a couple corrections though: Mario’s Face was a tech demo that was showcased at E3 2004, wherein you could manipulate Mario or Wario’s faces. This demo is now lost. The REC room drawings referred to two drawings of mysterious characters seen in the actual REC room. These were presumably drawn by Peach when she was little

A little thing that I’m a bit surprised wasn’t included in the iceberg: If you decide to ground pound while standing on a sign, you can actually push it into the ground. If you do it as Yoshi, Mario, or Luigi, you’ll still be able to read the sign, and your character will even automatically crouch in order to read it when you interact with it (Wario will just push it all the way into the ground, making it unreadable. Other characters do this when pounding the sign a second time).

The Mario bros are locked behind doors in princess peaches castle while the keys are in the portraits where you have to fight the bosses to get them. The Bros aren't in a different dimension, the keys are. However I do see the argument with the fact that warios painting is behind the mirror which could be an alternate dimension but that would mean that Luigi can just change which dimension he goes to after picking up a power flower.

The waluigi symbols are basically instances in the game where the color purple is seen used in tandem with red, green, and yellow. Notable cases where this happens are the title screen buttons, and the dots on the floor in the rec room.

I can cut in about the Castle being the “original castle.” In the SM64 Iceberg an entry states that the castle was magically altered by Bowser due to the lack of things a castle needs for people to live like furniture. In the DS version you have at least 2 rooms that actually have furniture, the rec room and Peach’s room. That means either the castle was changed only mostly or not changed at all in the DS Version.

(5:40) Download play was local play, it was the only multiplayer mode available. You would open the multiplayer mode and your friends (or whatever) would open DS download play and join you as one the yoshis. You couldn't select your characters but there was caps in game that you let be Mario, Luigi, or Wario. Other than that, superb video.

Hey, a thing I can answer! At 33:05, the characters on the floor are 雪 snow (white), 花 flower (yellow), 冰 ice (light blue), 水 water (blue), 土 dirt (darker brown), 木 wood (lighter brown). and the last one I can see clearly (at 33:11) (green) is grass 草. The purple tile may be 無, but that’s a bit contextual. It’s typically used in relation to absence or “without”, so there’s that to consider. There’s also one more, that’s a greyish-brownish, also at 33:11 but without looking at other videos or TCRF I can’t see what’s written so I don’t know what it is

I disagree. They probably wanted you to have mario unlocked to go to Big Boo's Haunt, So they made Yoshi not able to kill Boos. But then probably just chose to still not allow you to kill Boos as Yoshi after getting Mario, Or just forgot to make Yoshi able to kill Boos after unlocking Mario. I hope that I explained that correctly. (And I think they probably wanted you to use Mario to unlock Luigi. Because they're brothers).

I actually have the privilege of knowing something that isn't on the iceberg! (Though it might be what the "everyone can use the wing cap" is referring to) that, you can enter the wing cap stage as Yoshi. I've only been able to do it one time per save file, but upon entering it Yoshi will appear with wings on his back. He can't fly in this state, he just plummets to the death zone but it's a thing that exists. Perhaps the other characters were planned to be able to use the wing cap in normal play, but it was scrapped to give Mario more unique abilities?

Even though I was pissed that I fell for it, I absolutely loved that video for the sole reason that it used the final boss theme of Bowser's Inside Story before I even knew what the game was. The location of the Luigi painting always seriously screws with me, because I have the *most vivid* memory of what had to be a dream or something where it was in a room not unlike the ground floor room with the pit and the falling floors, except it was just one hallway and the bridge didn’t fall but it was over a pit to a platform/ledge with the Luigi painting at the end.

Some things to note: 8:40 Luigi and Mario have the same base jump height. In fact, because Mario is faster than Luigi, Mario can jump *slightly* higher than Luigi. (Of course, Luigi rocks the jumping distance house) 8:53 Luigi is as powerful as Mario. They can break the same things and punch enemies the same distance. 12:25 Sorry to ruin your joke, but running on water is not as impressive as walking on water.

Good video! I love everyone who gives some love to 64DS. It was pretty well made, though I must correct you on some minor points. (After all it's vey hard to not make mistakes in a 40 min video) Entering the final bowser fight as yoshi doesn't turn you into mario. You stay as yoshi and bowser will spawn caps of the characters you unlocked. If none are unlocked, the game crashes. Mario is fastest runner and highest jumper in general. Luigi is fastest swimmer and has the highest backflip. Yoshi can flutter for extra distance. Mega mushroom in chief chilly? Never heard of that. However there is a way to get a mega mushroom in Goomboss battle by kicking Goomboss with mario. It might be an error on the maker of the iceberg's side. (Oh, it was mentionned later. Cool.) The waluigi symbols probably refer to the colors in the minigame room: you can see circles and drawers colored in red, green, yellow and purple. People thought it could be related to mario, luigi, wario and waluigi. Wario doesn't run faster when holding an object. Mario-less run? Yeah haha btw I did a TAS of that check it out if you want haha no pressure tho haha. I also saw other comments also pointing out smart takes: Yoshi can't hurt boos because the devs wanted you to unlock mario first, then luigi using mario, the wario using luigi. The rec room drawings might actually be about the actual drawings in the actual rec room, on the mushroom table. The ally with info is most likely wario. The JRB painting is based on the original N64 japanese painting.

I think Yoshi probably can't damage Ghosts because of his Strenght Stat. The instruction Manual of the gane shows the stats of the Chars, with 3 beeing the highest and 1 the lowest. I believe Yoshi hat a stat of Zero, witch makes him Unable to destroy any block, since Yoshi never uses his hands. I think the Ghosts are Connected to a needed Strenght Stat of 1, in Order to prevent him from entering ANYTHING in the Backyard.

the waluigi symbols entry is referring to symbolism of waluigi, as in, signs that he was intended to be in the game, this mostly comes from the fact that many things that involve 4 colors in the game, are symbolic of mario, luigi, wario, and supposedly waluigi, like the towers in the level where you unlock the power flower block, the color of the settings button on the opening menu, and the colored circles on the floor of the minigame room. there are a few others but thats the main idea, and thats what that entry was referring to

Something that I feel is missing because I'd always found it peculiar is Peach's ponytail. Peach's usual design has her depiced with her hair down, but for some reason this is not the case in this game. In fact, she's never seen with her hair down in this game (as opposed to the original game), not even in paintings of her. I've always wondered why. They did have a DS model of her with her hair down in NSMB. Maybe it's because of Super Mario Sunshine.

nintendo actually planned to add luigi in the original version but they couldn't get it to work but im so glad they made it work in 2004 ds remake

I think the reason Yoshi can't hurt the boos is because the developers wanted to force the player to use Mario to unlock Luigi

Honestly, I DO think that Super Mario 64 DS and the original are in the same universe and i'd be willing to say that Super Mario 64 DS is a sequel to Super Mario 64. When talking to Koopa The Quick in Bob-omb Battlefield for the first time (as Yoshi) he mentions that you, Mario, quote "Long time no see. You've put on a few pounds since I last saw you." Long time no see, huh? I think it's safe to say that SM64DS comes after the original in a timeline sense.

Waluigi symbols could refer to stuff like the fact that the floor in Peach's Rec Room has a red circle, a green circle, a yellow circle, and for some reason, a purple circle. It's one of the various things people have used to prove that Waluigi may have been in the game at some point. I'm not sure where else Waluigi symbols could be located. It's this high on the iceberg, so it's gotta be something well-known, like those floor spots.
