I played against Cortez in high school. I hadn't seen him since in person, until one day I was at a gas station in Osceola. I looked, and there he was, I went up to him and introduced myself. He got real excited, and remembered our game. He invited me to his parents house, and showed me all of his trophies, and helmets all the quarterbacks had signed and given to him. It was an experience I will never forget. He gave me 6 of his cards and signed them. He was a very caring person, I'm so sorry for his passing, but he will never be forgotten.

People don't get to see that wonderful side of football players. I remember starting to stumble during a several hour run for tryouts and was tempted to give in; the top lineman pulled up and ran with me for the next minute. Might not have seen three championships had it not been for that one minute of caring.
