Worked in Cortina for a winter season, the scenery is probably the most amazing ive ever seen and ive skiied my entire life. The runs feel very different to what you get anywhere else also. Town is lovely too, has a really cool vibe. BUT the number one comment i had from my guests the entire time was that it felt like millionaire skiing because of the lack of crowds. theyre not wrong

@@joseejosee253 yes. You have to ski through the hidden valley ski run (amazing) and then also take the horse ride that takes you towards Corvara. Its not particularly easy but definitely worth it. Although i havent been in about 6 years now they may have changed it. Hope this helps

Good review. but confusing with all the areas. would be helpful if you pointed to the map for each are you talked about. Also a pity you dont wait for proper good snow coverage before you shoot your roll and drone shots. heaps of snow makes everything look better. the township looked drab snowless. best to wait for snow, then go shoot. overall good job. v. informative.

Fun fact 1): Cliffhanger was also shot in Cortina although the audience was led to believe it was the Rockies. There are still remains of the set well hidden a stone throw from Faloria upper station. Fun fact 2): there is slope even steeper than the Olimpica in Cortina. The upper part of the Staunies, but it is not groomed and generally closed to the public. It's a slope from a time when life was cheaper... I also agree that the Forcella Rossa is an amazing run. If it is not steeper than the Olimpica, it certainly looks so.

I was in Cortina, but Forcella Staunies was closed all the time. You had to exit chairlift in midstation, but there was a lot of snow. I don't understand why they kept it closed almost all the time? It seems an interesting slope but also a fantastic mountain scenery from the top of the chairlift.

A couple of corrections: 1) Cortina's slopes are not the steepest, there are at least 5 definitely much steeper 2) Among the cons you had forgotten the most important: prices! It's an extremely expensive location and the value for money ratio should be lowered to 5.5

Hello, I'd like to make some observations. 1) It's Forcella Rossa (red fork), not Rosa (pink fork) 2) Faloria and Tofana are linked with a free bus that passes every 20 minutes, going all the way from Freccia nel Cielo to the Faloria cablecar, making intermediate stops in key spots of Cortina, like Corso Italia. I agree it's old, but citing the guy operating the cablecar "it's the only way to go up that doesn't require a 300m high pylon just outside of Cortina". That's the reason of the intermediate stop (and the reason of long times for ascent/descent) 3) It's not clear if you're considering Col Gallina as part of the Cortina resort, as I clearly see images from the chairlift, but you never mention it. 4) You completely disregarded the existance of the Cristallo slopes (not extremely challenging but very enjoyable), which are probably the most fun due to the low affluence, fast chairlifts and very good food in Son Forca 5) Please do a bit more research on how to pronounce these names, you completely butchered them. This one is just a suggestion tho. Thank you.

It said as a con “quite small ski area”, but it’s listed as having 30,000 skiable acres, over 4 times larger than the largest ski resort in the U.S., and ten times larger than an average sized well known ski resort such as Deer Valley or Steamboat, so that had me a bit confused. I understand there are disconnected ski areas, but still, how small can it be? My biggest question is how fun it is to ski there given they get so little snow.
@merxc
@merxc Жыл бұрын
Bro sking in the Dolomites is the best, biggest resort in the world. Cortina downtown gets 2.5 m, and that's 1200m. Faloria starts at 2000m and upper Tofana goes to 2600m. The snow is always fine until mid-march, except in the return slope to Cortina, where it gets kinda crap around 1 pm, given the low elevation. This is obviously not considering abnormal heat fue to climate change though, but I was there last week and it was -11ºC at Faloria, and yesterday it snowed 50cm. Plus we're very good at keeping what we get, slope grooming is top notch.

@@merxc Say I wanted to stay for awhile, like 3 or 4 weeks, and I were by myself. Can you recommend where I might seek logging that wouldn’t be too expensive. I’m older, so not looking for a youth hostile type thing, if such existed, but maybe air b and b or a no frills but nice inn. Any ideas? I know some Italian if that makes any difference (doesn’t seem like it should, but seemed worth mentioning). Thanks so much!
@merxc
@merxc Жыл бұрын
@@ewallt I'd say airbnb or b&b, as you might find a good deal, especially in low season. There's some hotels, usually 2 stars and 3 stars, which have affordable prices, but those might be too high if you want to stay on the economy side of things. Try to search in all possible locations, not just Cortina, as everything is connected fairly well, and a location in the middle will get you everywhere and back in a day. I'd recommend getting the Dolomiti Skipass, if you're staying for a while you're going to want to move around those 1200km of slopes. Costs a bit more but its worth it in my opinion. Italian is not really needed, but it's a nice addition. English isn't really well spoken, but you can communicate just fine, given simple words. And if you know German you'll be fine in Alto Adige.

I live near Cortina and sometimes I go skiing there. The landscape is the most beautiful in the world but the quality of service is very low for the cost of ski pass. Slow chairlift and cable car from the 50s!. Also, the Faloria area is isolated so if you want to ski there you have to use your car in the massive traffic of the city whose road can’t support the exaggerated number of cars during holidays. I prefer going on 3 Zinnen Resort which is more focused on skiing with new slopes and a lot of new Gondolas and chairlifts. The new infrastructures in cortina are very little compared to the older ones who need replacement, but fortunately something is done after decades of nothing. Cortina is better for lush life with fancy restaurants and luxury boutiques like Gucci and Dior.
