Great tour through the Coast Range. Thank you. It has been a few years since I have poked around there while I lived in Lebanon.

Just finished up section 3 of the Oregon Coast Trail a few days ago. There are similar obstacles IE: Too much road walking, a couple of long stretches with limited water, and a tricky legal camping stretch or two, but it sure is a beautiful hike where those issues are not a problem... The opening of the C2C was the impetus for me wanting to get back into thru-hiking, although I ultimately decided to do the OCT instead... Next up: the Oregon stretches of the PCT!

Yeah, it really was pretty fun. Especially the mossy bits near Palmer Mountain.

Just curious why you'd do from the beach to Corvallis? Not the way I'll do it when I do it. I want that glorious ocean view to be my end point!
@HikingRogue2 жыл бұрын
There were two factors at play, one was we were hiking with the weather so there was no rain in the forecast. If we had gone the other way it would have rained on us the last night and following day. The other was that the shuttling arrangements were easier for our ride going the other direction.

I was thinking about going out and back from Corvallis with my best friend. Do you think a double wide stroller would work for this hike?

How's the elevation gain/loss? I was thinking going from Corvallis to the coast would be more downhill?
@glowingfish Жыл бұрын
Well, Corvallis is at 235 feet, so whatever small difference in start and end elevations, the bigger question is how much up and down there is on the coast range.

I live in Newport and I'm planning to do this trail this summer. Did you guys encounter/see signs of any cougars or bears?
@HikingRogue2 жыл бұрын
I am certain they are out there, but we didn't have any issues or see any traces.

thanks for the video, what navigation tools did you use for your hike?
@HikingRogue2 жыл бұрын
I went to the trouble of making a gpx route on Gaia, but wound up just using the paper map I got from Peak Sports in Corvallis. Honestly, the trail is so well marked that I probably didn't even need that, but you should always carry some form of navigation tool with you.

I also wonder if anybody from C2C has been in contact w FarOut/Guthook about getting the trail on their site? The Timberline trail was recently added. We were going there in a few weeks to do that but our plans fell through. This might be a better option. And we plan on hiking the Oregon & Washington sections of the PCT next year also.

We want to do this maybe next spring. We hiked the Pct last year before injury forced us off trail. I think we want to hike it from east to west. The maps that you can get/download did you buy your maps? Maybe download them & laminate them? How do you know when you are on private vs govt land so you can camp? Thanks
@HikingRogue2 жыл бұрын
I actually preferred going east to west because when you're done, you can literally walk right on into a restaurant. I get the excitement of arriving at the beach, but I grew on the coast so I suppose that wasn't as big of a deal. I purchased a paper map at Peak Sports in Corvallis, but I believe some of the Oregon REI stores have started carrying it. Once I got the map I hopped on Gaia and mapped out the route so I could have it on my phone. It's not quite as good as Far Out, but it got the job done. I went ahead and added the link to the route I made in the description. You can either use it with Gaia or download the GPX route if you use another app. I imagine Far Out may pick it up at some point, but I don't know the process of how they choose what trails get added. The trail is very well marked and it's easy to tell when you're on private land.

@@HikingRogue We just got our maps that C2C had on their website. We both have Gaia but have never used it. We have done most of our hiking using Farout or visiting places we have been before . We live on the Southern Oregon Coast in Coquille/near Coos Bay.. Haven't figured it out yet but Is it about 30 miles from corvallis to the BLM, Big Elk campground? If it is are there any places to camp in that 30 miles? I know depending on where we start we can camp either at the fairgrounds or the Mary's river grange hall if we make arrangements ahead of time. I would like to camp somewhere before the 20 mile mark but most of the trail the first section you can't camp there/ corvallis watershed.

I seen the map you made on GAIA. Can't figure out how to download it to use is offline. I have a GAIA account but have not really used it & not subscribed to anything. Any help would be appreciated. i would like to have 2 ways to help hike the trail. The paper maps that we got and an offline map..

Just recently farout added the Oregon Coast trail to their app. Hopefully the c1c at something. 2023 we hiked all of Oregon on the PCT except from timberline lodge to cascade locks. Then did the Washington section from Steven's pass south to almost Snoqualmie pass. Can't remember the name of the place we go out at but we stayed that night in Cle Elum. Then took the shuttle to Seattle

I've been wanting to do this cool is there any places to fish along the way as you hike?
@HikingRogue2 жыл бұрын
There are a couple of creeks, but I don't fish so I wouldn't be much help there.

Nice to see my favorite hiking couple out and about . 👦 👣 💘 👣 👧 Personally speaking, that route wouldn't be for me.... Not enough camp where you like options and not far enough away from the presence of civilization and society for me. But I enjoyed seeing you both smiling and healthy so it's a win-win. 😆 👍📹
