The original seal is different in the corner than the original... If you look at the video you'll see the new seal has a huge indent in it. I wonder if this is for the convertible version? this is the problem I'm having. The targa seal doesn't seem to "mate" with the new seal on my car. They just don't fit together. My targa seals look like they'd fit perfectly with your old seal though.

same i just did mine and it looked just like this, after putting the new one on there was a different indent in the new weatherstrip that caused leaking and it was very difficult to put the targa top on, did u figure out how to fix yours?

Use rubber tire protectant from amoral to bring back the color. 3M make a glue removal spray. You do have to use 3M weatherstripping adhesive. But you probably already know that by now.

Really man. Thanks for this video. Mine is in tatters. But I hardly ever get to fix things like I could with the 1967 firebird. Your video clearly shows how easy it is. And you did it one handed.

Excellent video . My 1996 Vette is next, maybe I'll make a video but I doubt it you've done a good job sir

Thanks! Be sure to spend a little more money on the weatherstrip than I did. Still kicking myself for buying the one that was "on-sale" :-( But it has held up OK - it's just not as soft and smooth as it should have been.
I have found that removing the A Pillar trim screws makes makes this job easier. You don't have to remove the trim. Just leave it loose. Makes it easier to tuck the bottom and top of A Pillar weather strip in place. You definitely want to use the 3M Removal Solvent. Makes the glue removal much easier. Hope this helps some of you. Slow and steady gets you through this one. Good Luck

How long did the job take? I'm about to do the same thing on my 1990 convertible.

I don't recall exactly - but I would guess a couple hours. I didn't really run into anything that stopped me along the way. But of course every car is different. Hope yours goes smoothly.

Thanks for the great video! Can you please tell me where you bought the A-pillar weatherstrip? Can you give me a OEM number?
@MegawattKS3 жыл бұрын
I believe it might have been from CorvetteCentral dot com. Sorry - I don't have any part numbers - but try visiting that site or one of the other Corvette parts vendors. I think they're all aftermarket - probably not real GM parts...

You know. I'd probably have some place do that but your video encouraged me to try it myself. I will buy the more expensive strip. Thanks again.

Only additional suggestion is don’t buy the cheapest replacement strip. The objective is to prevent leaks and the cheap wear quickly!
@MegawattKS6 ай бұрын
Agreed. Lesson learned. FWIW, it has aged well. The strip surface hasn't gotten any worse in appearance - perhaps because the car is garaged :-)

No, the success does it leak? Show it all buttoned up and spraying it with a hose. If it doesn’t leak THEN it is a success
@MegawattKS6 ай бұрын
That's a fair point. It does in fact leak slightly (no doubt since I didn't glue it). But I didn't want to glue it since I thought I might have to get a better product. And I don't drive the car in the rain - so it's good enough for car washing at least ;-)

Great video for my needs. Thank You ☺️ my C4 works rather well. Looks great too. Roars of course. Is your C4 still fun ?

Thanks. Yes - absolutely. She gets out one or two times a week year-round. These cars are awesome. The occasonal thing needs to be worked on from time to time, but that's part of the ownership experience. 99% of the time, its just a smooth, fun driving machine. Enjoy the ride :-)

MegawattKS yes. Normal maintenance stuff. No smoke from the engine or any major issues. Gets too hot if the outside temp is over 90 degrees. Maybe I’ll install a extra manual switch for the fans. Anyway. I’ll be installing the rubber gasket this weekend. Thanks again.

After install, did your windows roll up ok or did you have to adjust them?

No problems on mine. Have never adjusted them on the Corvette.

Did this to my 1995 C4. Freaking hard job. I did it though. The top is another story. I will live with it as it wasn't very bad. Got the rubber if I ever decide I am bored with life.

Great video and right on time for me. I've been debating whether or not to pay my body shop to replace mine. After watching your video I've decided to do it myself, and I will take your advice and probably go with the better quality piece. Mine has been in sad shape for several years but like you it never goes out in bad weather. Thanks again!

Sounds like a great idea. Does it sink into the material enough that it doesn't rub off? (I haven't had or used shoe polish in a while)

Hey buddy where did you buy the a&b pillar sealers from
@MegawattKS9 ай бұрын
Checking my records, it looks like I got this from Eckler's in Florida in 2015 for US$68. I just did a Google search for "Ecklers Corvette Front Roof Weatherstrip, Coupe/Convertible, EDP" (which is what is on my receipt) and see one option there listed now for US$119 and another for US$202. Rockauto also seems to list this stuff. I see a couple options if I go to "CHEVROLET > 1992 > CORVETTE > 5.7L V8 OHV > Body & Lamp Assembly > Windshield Molding / Seal". It's always a bit of a gamble on quality. The one I put on had some issues as noted in the video, but it has held up OK (car is garaged) :-)

I bought a c4 and it came with new seals but they are not installed now I’’m wondering what glue should I use
@MegawattKS3 жыл бұрын
I had bought some Permatex weatherstrip adhesive, but ended up not using it since the strip I took off didn't have any glue except at the top corners. I left it off there even since I wasn't sure if I would want to do the job again (the stripping I got wasn't the best quality). It leaks a tiny bit at those corners when I do car washes, but I don't go out the rain much, so I haven't gone back to it :-)
@chefgromano50253 жыл бұрын
No glue? How’s it holding up?
@MegawattKS3 жыл бұрын
Has held up well, although there is a small drip when I do a car wash. It comes from the corner where the windshield portion curves down to the A pillar. I don't drive it much, and not in the rain if I can help it. But I think if I had applied glue/sealant in those corners that would be enough.
@josuecortez22596 жыл бұрын
Did you have any leaks immediateky after doing this? thia ia my second time replacing the weatherstrip because I keep getting window leaks on the passenger side. I bought higher quality weatherstrip and put it on properly. For some reason the passenger side strip doesnt hug on the glass and not sure what to do. This is the same problem I had before.
@MegawattKS6 жыл бұрын
I don't really drive in the rain, but when I wash the car it is reasonably tight. Since I didn't put any sealant around the top corners, it does seem to drip a minor amount from the corners after washing. Maybe a half dozen drops forming over a minute or two till it stops. But nothing strong. Still, without having the sealant, I would not want to have the car outside in a gully-washer. Sorry I don't have better info...
@MegawattKS6 жыл бұрын
As to the glass hugging the strip, I don't have any issues. The glass seems to push sufficiently against it. Sounds like your issue might just be a door-alignment problem ?
@josuecortez22596 жыл бұрын
Yeah I keep seeing that it might be a window alignment issue. Thanks though. slubds like its going to be a weekend project haha
