I installed this device yesterday and worked excellent. Finicky to get electrical plugs released and patience is required. I began with getting the steering column unlocked and after a minute of messing with this until it unlocked I then removed the ground cable off the battery post. No annoying chirps or bells going off, I had it done in an hour. Thanks for the post!

Did exactly what he said and it worked! The battery does die so be prepared to charge it after! I got scared when my car didn’t turn on after installing the column bypass

So you had the same issue as me? I installed one on eBay back in April of this year, it worked... but today the message popped back up again and I had to disconnect the battery to get it To start. I’m assuming I’ll have to install another one? Which isn’t an issue but I will admit it was a pain in the ass...

You have to take the unit out, plug back into the column lock, have the car unlock it, then plug the unit back in.

Does this work on a 2000 Cliff? I got the LMC5 to install in passenger footwell .

I know the 2000 corvettes had a similar issue. However, it is a different bypass module, and may plug in, in a different location. I’m not too familiar with the C5 corvettes.

Search for your vette year there are for c5 and c6

I installed my bypass device last night, but after attempting going for a ride, my steering wheel is locked. Did you have this problem after installing the bypass device?

I didn’t, but it sounds like the column lock was in the “locked position” when you installed the bypass. You have to turn the car on to unlock the wheel, before unplugging the column lock. Otherwise it’s stuck in the locked position.

Looks like I uploaded this video about 3 years ago. I’ve had the car 11 years, and put the first unit in it not long after I got it. So the first unit was in there roughly 7-ish years. The second one is doing fine so far.

Hey dude, quick question. I have an 05 as well, and the column lock is getting stuck on 90+ degree days. I looked it up, and isn't there an open recall on all '05-'06 manual trans cars that have the telescoping steering wheel? Gonna call tomorrow, but wondering if you've heard of that. I guess the locking mechanism is supposed to be removed and fixed for free by a dealer.

I’ve never heard of that. But I say just install a bypass module. Or if the dealer will fix it for free, have them do it.

Hey brother, I am just looking into this now, but there was a TSB that came out late 2018. The dealer will fix the problem permanently but it’s not covered under any type of warrantee so it will cost you. @@deankevin96 found it on EBay for about $62. Listing description shows KC designs. Plug and play install once getting past the hard plastic clips mentioned in the video.

What happens if you connect the by pass module and the accessory mode is not on ? I replaced the bypass module with a new one but still getting the column lock message

I’m not sure. I made sure to do it according to the instructions. I would go back and do it correctly.

+haynboy8 both on eBay, and I think they were both west coast corvette. Not 100% on brand though.

Quick question Cliff, I've ordered the lock bypass but the steering is currently locked. I have no idea how to 'unlock it.' Any idea if the steering will unlock when the bypass is installed? Many Thanks!

If it’s stuck in the locked position, I am not sure how to get it to unlock. Try looking on the corvetteforum.com, to digitalcorvettes.com. Lots of good info there!

They have a bypass of sorts for the c5 as well.
