Corvette Z06 Corsa NPP Exhaust Install ***HARD REVS***

One of the main things I miss about my C6 was the exhaust note. I had a Corsa Xtreme paired with a stage 3 cam, long tube headers, and an aftermarket x pipe on that car. The stock exhaust on the C7 actually isn't too bad with the valves open, but come on. "Isn't too bad"? I wasn't satisfied with that! So today, I installed a Corsa 14777BLK exhaust on my C7 Z06.
The 14777 is a particularly interesting exhaust in that it is a variable sound exhaust equipped with valves. With the valves closed, the exhaust is directed through the 2 center pipes, which are baffled. The result is something in between the stock exhaust with the valves closed/open. Opening the valves allows the exhaust to travel through the outer 2 exit pipes, which basically route around the outside of the muffler and are not subjected to any baffling. This is about as close to a 'straight pipe' as you can get, without truly straight piping the car. The result is...well... 'xtreme' as Corsa's marketing team would say. Even in this mode, there is absolutely no highway drone whatsoever. This really is a great exhaust!

Hey Rob, I already have the Corsa exhaust and Corsa xpipe, I'm about to do heads and cam. I originally didn't want to do headers because I'm really happy with the corsa sound. How do you like living with headers and Corsa on regular basis? Is it ever too much?

I love it, but it is extremely loud. With the valves shut, it's pretty quiet and definitely daily drivable. Without the valves, it may be a little bit too much. It really just depends on your tolerance for a loud exhaust.

@@RobsHouse Sounds like there's only one way to find out lol I suppose I can always keep the stock headers and put them back on if it's too much. Only other consideration is noise limits at certain road courses

Yeah they did. Mine was just in a bad batch that happened early on. The replacements they sent me work perfectly

Rob, have you had any problems with your valves closing on your Corsa axel back ? I’ve been reading through some forms, and there’s been a hand full of people having that issue. Supposedly to stock mufflers have a spring to help keep the valves open, Corsa muffler do not have that spring. I just ordered the system, and I’m hoping I do t have that issue. By the way your car sounds amazing. You also have a lot of great videos, keep up the good work

Yes I do. It's really a problem with the valves opening back up (not closing). If there's not enough exhaust flow to help them pop back open, they sometimes get stuck and rattle. When that happens, I just close them (stealth mode) and wait until i can give it some gas. Then I open them (track mode) while I'm accelerating. That seems to do the trick for me. If you have a lot of soot build up in there, soak the valves and surrounding area with WD-40. It'll loosen all that up (it'll smoke a lot too cuz it'll burn off once it's warm so don't freak out). Usually, simply closing and reopening the valves works for me. It is annoying though.

I just watched a video on corsa and they had two seats of valves on that video one set on the axle back pipes and the other on the mufflers why does yours only have one set?

The set on the axle back pipes are AFM (Active Fuel Management) valves. The Z06 doesn't have AFM. So, they were installing the exhaust on a stingray in that video. Just make sure you buy the right exhaust for whichever model you have. Mines was the 14777 and I believe the one for the base model that you saw is the 14776.

Does the rear bumper have to be removed to install the exhaust?

That lower portion that we removed in the video does have to be removed otherwise you cannot get to the clamps for the tips or the bolts for the hangers. The upper portion can stay on the car like we had it.

There has been at least one report of this system not having return springs on the valves allowing them to drift shut. Is your system operating as expected and did you notice whether it had a spring on the valve like the stock NPP system.

I'm glad you brought this up. It does not have the return springs, but mine also do not seem to drift shut. The issue I do have is that once in a while, one of the valves will get stuck in the closed position because of soot buildup. I have had to spray WD-40 up in there to clean the valve and surrounding area. I emailed Corsa about this and they basically just acknowledged it and said I did the right thing with respect to the WD-40. But they didn't have an answer as to why there are no return springs...

Hey Rob very clean build. If you remove the exhaust valves from the existing tips does it have a check engine light come on? I was planning to straight pipe my c7 z06 and doing a muffler delete. But im worried about the valve motors though. Do they impact or reduce sound?

Thanks Kevin! Removing the valves will not cause a check engine light. One of mine actually came unplugged a few days after I did this install (must have vibrated the connector loose). There was no dash light. The valve was stuck in a weird position and was making a rattling noise. I ended up figuring it out, but it was a bit difficult actually since it doesn't throw a code. If you straight pipe your car, you can just unplug the valve motors which are attached to the factory exhaust and just zip tie those wires somewhere safe.

No. It has aftermarket headers, but there are cats. Stock cam. This is before the motor build. It's basically just a full aftermarket exhaust.

Not on the Z06. For vehicles with Active Fuel Management (AFM) valves, there is cutting involved. The Z06 doesn't have the AFM capability (which is basically the V4 mode for fuel economy).

Rob, I have a 2019 ZR1 with a CORSA Y pipe. Already fairly loud with valves open. Was thinking about adding the 14777BLK mufflers but don't really want to lose the quite Touring mode I get with valves closed. How much louder is it from stock, both with valves closed? Can you really cruise on the highway without any droning?

There’s is no highway drone even with valves open (although you’ll hear it purring in the background). With valves closed, it’s just about dead silent inside of the cabin. Certainly worth the extra money for the NPP compatible system 👍

The difference is that in sport mode, it’ll shut the valves in 5th gear and up when you’re cruising. 1-4 the valves will stay open. Track mode, it’ll leave them open all the time

Yup. It leaves them open while you’re on the gas and then once it’s convinced you’re cruising, it shuts them :)

I did a video on the motor built. It’s basically a max effort stock blower build. And yes, it’s tuned on 93. We have 93 here and E85. I’ll be finishing the E85 tune soon once I install the additional fuel pump I needed for it.

The car already had American Racing headers and X pipe. So, I only swapped the axle-back. If you have a stock x-pipe, it'll make a big difference if you swap that.

@@polinjr4545 should be a little louder. If you want it a lot louder, you need to swap both the x pipe and the axle back. But the corsa mufflers are definitely louder than the factory ones either way

It’s just a muffler swap. Unless Canada has noise limitations, it should be fine. The catalytic converters are before the axle back section so this part doesn’t affect emissions.
