This is why I don’t understand why General Motors changed the corvette to mid engine, it seemed so much faster, idk if they make the zr1 c7 anymore for the C8, there is the z06 though
@genericallyaccepted2 жыл бұрын
They changed it because mid-engine is the better platform for handling.
@datboi22322 жыл бұрын
also the base 500 hp corvette c8 is faster to 60 than the c7 zr1 by 2 tenths of a second (2.9 to 3.1). The new zo6 has a claimed 2.5 second 0-60. The mid engine platform handles better and can do more things with less power
@JETZcorp2 жыл бұрын
They were reaching diminishing returns. Acceleration out of a corner is the most important thing for pace, and Corvettes really haven't been able to improve at that very much at all for 10 years. The whole C7 generation was extremely frustrating to the engineers. They'd add power and it would become hard to control in the turns. So they add downforce and the increased drag just kills the extra power on the straights. The Corvette team asked GM to go mid-engine for the C7 generation, and were going to get it until the recession happened and they had to scale back. Now they get to build the car they wanted to build.
@thundrune15542 жыл бұрын
@@genericallyaccepted corvettes have been mid engine since 1963 - facts. It’s gone from front mid engine with a 50/50 weight distribution to mid rear with 60/40. Currently the C8 handles like garbage (check out throttle house review or SavageGeese), but yes it’s quicker in a straight line. However, the current ring kings are the GT3 with the engine hanging off the back and the AMG Black Series which is mid front - facts. Of course in the current mid engine hyperbole neither of the afore mentioned should even be in the conversation never mind top of the heap. Don’t believe everything manufacturers marketing departments put out there. Just sayin.
@genericallyaccepted2 жыл бұрын
@@thundrune1554the traditional definition of mid engine was that the motor was behind the driver but in front of the rear axel. Definitions change over time but most will argue that point. So a front-mid engine falls under the umbrella term for front engine as opposed to mid engine. You can disagree if you want. the C8 has a 40/60 weight distribution and it doesn't handle like garbage, but reviews tend to say it does understeer more than expected, which makes sense because its not a track car and its also not a car that isn't in the realm of possible ownership for many people. A lot of the reviews praise its GT demeanor which is what most of the C8s on the road will do. Also, reviews on the 2022 model have said that it has already been sharpened in the handling department. No idea if that is true or not. But the Z06 and other performance models will be competitive against the RS and the likes. Obviously with enough engineering you can make any layout competitive, but FWD has the least potential. I think porsche keeps the 911 rear engine because of its heritage. Whenever they have built supercars, they choose the mid engine layout.

They is a vid of them racing, but it was less than a mile. The demon won the 1st race, 2nd race c7 zr1 took it. It was all down to the transmission and weight on the wheels for grip. Except for the fact the ZR1 can corner better than almost any other car on the planet, even better than the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which has better tires than the zr1... VIR Grand Course record for over a year until the Senna took the crown. 2nd now and still faster than the 911 GT2 RS, McLaren 765LT, and Huracan Performante though

Part of the problem, in this video, is that Clarkson's idea of showing off the power is to stomp the gas pedal and drive like a yobbo.

Why the heck did you turn the traction control off? That's way too much rear end power to put your foot into in anything but a straight line! I swear I used to be young (not in your case) and dumb also and got sideways with many a muscle car in my earlier days. In fact I had a brand new two month old 1995 6-speed C4 and left a traffic light showing off on Sunset Blvd one night and went 90 degrees straight into a tree. I've never turned the traction control off since. I'm currently driving a 2019 7-speed Z07 equipped C7 Grand Sport and would never turn the TC off!! Having it on makes no difference in the performance as this Vette has a 1.2 G skid pad number and the HUGE Brembos. You have to be pretty out of control (which is pretty hard to do) before the TC light even comes on! I've seen it blink maybe once or twice. You were so out of control on some of the curves in this video I have to wonder about your driving skills! Your lap times would have been much better with the TC on!
@danielcamacho19133 күн бұрын
Who says he turned the traction control off? After a couple of decades of customers complaining about heavy-handed traction control that bogged down their engine, several manufacturers (including Ford and Chevy) have made their traction control variable. If the road is slick and you're cautious with the gas pedal, traction control helps you out. But it intervenes less, the harder you push the gas pedal. A lot of the people who "mustang" off the road on KZbin had the traction control on, and basically overrode it with their right foot. ...So Clarkson could leave the traction control and _still_ lose control of the car, because his idea of showing off the power is to drive like a hooligan.

@@danielcamacho1913 If he did have it on, it was set so minimally as to not be doing anything noticeable. What would be the point? When I was taking performance driving courses at Ron Fellow's Spring Mountain Race Track in Nevada, we set the Grand Sports in Track mode, Mode 2. Don't ever remember slipping or sliding or seeing the tracktion control light up. Maybe I have good finesse (I'm certainly not holding back), and that was with the Michelin street tires, not the Pilot Sports (they can't afford to use them at the track because they'd be changing them WAY to often). I don't know what Jeremy had on the ZR1, but I suppose it's possible they weren't Pilot Sports which would be ludicrous and certainly not help the situation. I'm curious if you've ever personally driven a ZR1, Z06, or Grand Sport with the Z07 (track) package. They handle remarkably if you know what you're doing. Here's Randy Probst driving with no tracktion control on. Some wiggling for sure. LOTS of torque (715 at 4400). Jeremy would have been into the wall!
