I got so excited when I saw the title! Yesss, thank you so much for making this, Corey Henry is a genius. Your videos give SUCH insight! I've been binge watching so many of your video recently and improving, I can't believe you put so much of your knowledge to share :D

Doc I hold you in wayyyy higher regard than Cory Henry. You have a masters in music and you are here breaking down stuff and teaching with actual theoretical knowledge. I have never heard CH explain or teach anything. TBH if I had to choose to hear you or CH do a clinic it's you Doc. I don't think CH has anything on you. You're my Cory.

I’ve came to the conclusion that Cory Henry is a good drummer which separates him from other great pianists and organists. Listen to his Cory‘s licks and runs, he executes them during the turnaround just like a drummer does their fill ins and rolls.
@SkilledMusician3 жыл бұрын
That’s very true! Many of the great pianists were drummers as well.

1. You didn’t tell us the key 🔑. I’m assuming it’s C#. 2. Wonderful breakdown. Corey, I’m noticing the more I’m immersed in gospel that gospel pianists (like Cory here) use interesting rhythms. Is there a way to improve/ acquire the ability to play these rhythms? 3. Some say perfect pitch can be learnt; others say it can’t. Where do u lean in this debate?
@SkilledMusician Жыл бұрын
In regards to rhythm, yes you can improve it just as any other element of music. It’s just that we don’t practice it much. I have a couple of videos on rhythm in this channel. Check this out. In regards to perfect pitch, I think it is a spectrum and everyone falls somewhere on it. I think you can improve your pitch. For example, if you are really close to perfect pitch, then for sure with some work you can get there. But if you are close to tone deaf, I don’t think you can improve to perfect pitch.

First, I hate Cory Henry. No one should be allowed to be that good. Second, I just have no idea how anyone could not only have a good enough ear to hear what he is doing but be able to break it down in such a precise matter.
