I feel like what's happening now with vulfpeck, snarky puppy, nate smith, cory wong, etc is going to be written down in history as a jazz funk renaissance. These guys are living legends.
@JamesDGardner5 жыл бұрын
TheChosenOne it’s probably got to go somewhere else than just here. Some other direction. These bands you’re talking about are still fairly obscure. Because People hear this stuff and it sounds old to them. Sometimes thats a good thing though but even amongst the ones reeled in by the nostalgia it doesn’t seem to last. You can’t just make music that sounds just like some time in the past or some artist from the past and really expect to blaze a new trail or start a renaissance . (SRV KINDA DID IT BUT THATS SRV. Different more approachable type of music in the blues he played. Compared to this crazy funk. Also it was a different time and era) Or you will be disappointed. snarky puppy seems to appeal to the marching band kid in all of us. Not an insult. I was in marching band. THESE GUYS ARE ALL REALLY TALENTED. I see them having fun playing that’s all that matters, but I could see this being the kind of music the musicians have more fun playing than the listener has listening. It’s almost kind of masturbatory to some people, not me, but this stuff bores a lot of people I’ve played this kind of music for. Or if it interests them, the interest is short. I really like the weather report but I don’t think they would fair any better today than they did in their day. If that makes sense. Money ruins music though so I’m glad you guys aren’t letting it ruin you.

@@JamesDGardner I urge you to check out nate smith's tiny desk and tell me there isn't something fresh that people are latching onto
@JamesDGardner5 жыл бұрын
Adam Gagan he’s my favorite here. And everything he touches turns to gold. I love everything I’ve ever heard including him. That tiny desk is awesome. Such tasteful musicians backing him too. How old is Nate smith? Edit: he’s 44 and I think that makes sense when you listen to the experience and nuances in his playing.
@JamesDGardner5 жыл бұрын
Something about this remind me of ‘mercy mercy mercy’ the Dave weckl version. Maybe it’s this guys drumming partly Maybe it’s how much he is choked up on the traditional. Lol jk. I think it’s the key or tempo and just the character of the groove/style. Edit: I compared and there’s some similar things going on. Mercy mercy mercy by Dave weckl is still better though. I’m sure these guys would take it as a compliment being compared to master weckl though.
@fritz38025 жыл бұрын
Dylan Gardner I totally agree with everything you said. I mean I love what all these guys do but yeah I think it’s college sorta music... I hope these guys eventually try new things . It’s good music but nothing new. Which isn’t always a bad thing.

I was pretty sure Jon Batiste plays on this, and I just read Marti Fischer in the comments here saying it's based on his musical idea, but there's *no way* to tell just listening to the streaming services or even if you buy the MP3 track 😞. The limited edition vinyl probably has liner notes, but there's no CD available. Nobody has entered full credits in Wikipedia yet, so you have to wait for each video to appear. It's crazy. Apple came up with a digital album format for iTunes that includes a "digital booklet," does anyone know if you get a digital booklet if you buy "Motivational Music for the Syncopated Soul" on iTunes? The music industry need to solve this, e.g. embed simple HTML page in the track's metadata. ... yay, someone has entered credits in Discogs!
