So for the chrysalis story, it’s my understanding that the newly discovered bug species is actually what is making his mom go crazy. It’s parasitic and needs a new host because the mom is getting old and weak, so the bug controlled her to get a new host.

I know what happened to the mother in the 2nd film. When she found the new “bug,” she didn’t know that it was actually a parasite. The parasite bit her and she started to loose her memory overtime.
