I'm glad you gave mention to the missing 5th yellow god. I know he was removed for the sake of production time, but I feel like his presence is still there. The yellow energy field, the voice directing you to "destroy this" etc

I like to interpret the game as having Manterok as the protagonist. You, the player, aren't the pawns being manipulated against the enemy, you are the corpse god tweaking events from the very start. Who do you think made Pius pick a relic in the first place? Manterok is the player character, manipulating all these mortals to do their bidding.

I had interpreted it as Manterok manipulating you the player. Manterok literally pulling from a power outside their world to manipulate events. This possibly makes the player the 5th ancient power

An interesting thing about the setting is that gods of power, knowledge, and mind are usually depicted as 'good' in stories, while gods of death and chaos are often 'evil' - but death-as-decay only exists in relation to life and *has* to encourage life to proliferate to be able to get that death. Which is exactly what happens with the gods in Eternal Darkness. The RGB gods want to enslave humanity to their will as mindless thralls bound to what gives them strength, but Mantorok binds life only to mortality and presumably doesn't interfere beyond the temporal manipulations required to kill off his thieving neighbours.

I think the banging on the door and the mysterious delivery of the final package is Michael, still living and trying to get the essence to the Roivas estate. The package he gave to Edward was a fake to throw off the guardians.

I did not play Eternal Darkness, but I remember reading one of those old gaming magazines telling all the secrets of the game. And I remember being baffled by the fact that the guide just said: "Grab this item and watch your character die." or "After you open the door, you die". I was like... Does this game kill the main characters? And I thought it was an amazing way to tell a story, especially in the end where it all comes around.

I love the story in this game which revolves around Eldritch Gods which usually it always ends badly and worse for the protagonist in the end. However, this is not the case. There is hope. Passing the torch to the next generation to fight against cosmic horror. Even if many protagonists die, even if it is hopeless, and even if it seems futile, people will continue to fight.

I spent far too long researching this. Seems that it's "lies" if it's present tense, and "lay" if past tense. However I'm uncertain of which would be correct. Even though she's describing events in the past, from a gameplay perspective it's taking place in the present. Although I guess that's not exactly true since Alex is basically reading the story from a book I think.
