Your challenge soap turned out beautifully! I attempted two 1.5 pound batches that sort of worked. Although, when Amy sent out the clarification email on the technique, I knew I had forced the pour too much. It's a really interesting technique, and watching how the soap will flow and settle is pretty cool. I see many more attempts of the Cosmic Wave in my future.
@hollysoapmaking8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I did the same thing with my first attempt - tried to force the pour too much. I went back and watched Tatsiana's video a couple of times, and Amy's clarification email really helped, too. This was my 3rd and final attempt. I really wanted more waves across the entire surface, so I'm definitely going to try again in the future. :)

Kapia Mera Soap Co Did you happen to try Tatsiana's reccomended recipe? I did not, but I think I will give it a try on another attempt. I love all your soaping videos! :)

Hello Holly, I'm new on soap making and I love your videos!!! I have a question please. On this procedure have you calculated the infused oils that you used and the weight has been reduced from the full amount of oils that you need for your recipe? I hope my question makes sense 😊 Thank you!!
@hollysoapmaking3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Your question makes perfect sense! :) Since I was only using small amounts of infused oil to color the soap, I didn't subtract it from my recipe oils. However, if it requires a lot of infused oil to color the soap (like if I'm coloring an entire batch or even half a batch), I will reduce the specific oil in the recipe by that amount. If you're adding small amounts of infused oil and are worried about the additional oil, you can also reduce your superfat percentage a bit (I'll often use 5% instead of 6 or 7%).

I watch your videos all the time and I thought I would try this while my wife was gone. She makes the soap but I wanted to try it myself. I noticed that you soaped this at 86 degrees instead of 120-130 to make it gel. So, that is what I did. But, I used 40% water in my lye water (Maybe that's my problem) and after 3 days, its still not ready to cut. I was able to get it out of the mold yesterday. My question is, how did you get it to cut so soon soaping at 86 degrees? In fact, I don't even know if it did gel soaping so cold? In case this helps you to answer my question, if you have time, I used 32 oz of oil, 4.6 oz of lye and 12.8 ounces of water. Maybe

Hi! Beautiful as always :) I tried two times, but my soap batter thickened up on me too much. Your technique was perfect. I think you're soaps are amazing :)

Loved your video. Gorgeouse soap. I want to try this technique. What is the cutter called that you use to create your loaves from the slab? I have to hand cut and mine never come out even.
@hollysoapmaking5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It’s a slab cutter from Buds Woodshop (Bud Haffner) on Etsy. :)

Beautiful soap. Where do you get those fantastic gloves? I can only find the ones that come to the end of my Palm.
@hollysoapmaking8 жыл бұрын
Thank you! And thank you for asking about the gloves! I meant to put a link below the video because they are my absolute favorite gloves. I found them on Amazon - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MXBUCKC Although... the photos in the Amazon listing show a thinner, purple glove. I received the steel blue ones and they are very thick.

HI Holly! I love watching your videos... I have learned so much from you. Thank you!!! I do have a question for you... you have no ash on this soap and it doesn't look like you plane the finished bars... how do you keep your tops so clean and smooth?
@hollysoapmaking6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I usually keep my soaps covered tightly for at least 24 hours. Allowing fresh air into the mold during saponification (even peeking at it) can cause ash to form. If I do end up with ash (sometimes it just happens no matter what), I will steam the tops or, as you mentioned, plane them a little. Thanks for asking! -Holly

Which/whose recipe of oils did you use? Beautiful!
@hollysoapmaking8 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Kimberly! I listed my recipe in my challenge entry blog post - you can find it here - kapiamera.wordpress.com/2016/11/11/cosmic-wave/ It's the recipe I normally use for challenges that require a slow moving soap batter.
