Thanks Jon! This little tip has helped me so much! I hope you're doing well and that your cosplays are coming along nicely!

Fantastic information to be aware of! The old addage is measure twice, cut once. But make sure you’re measuring with the right tool! 👍📐📏

This is very good information. Never thought there would be a size difference cause by the thickness of foam.

I got lucky with a viral short. I wonder if someone featured it on one of those shorts channels

I had to think about that for a bit but when wrapped around your waist the inner circumference of the foam is 2πr and the outer circumference is 2π(r+.24) [ roughly 6mm]. If the inner circumference is 29 inches then the radius is 4.618 inches. Add .24 inches to the radius and the outer circumference is about 30.5 inches. Considering that it's likely you're not cinching up the foam as tightly as a tape measure, add in a bit of fudge and Eureka! Math Works (assuming I did it right - it's been a while). Do I pass the nerd test? Great video.

OMG you are such a nerd! Haha! and I'm sure your math checks out. I didn't have it perfectly flush with my skin. I love your brain!

so should I use the inner or outer measurement? I'm using pepakura to make a helmet but it always end up too big or too small. Have made myself a foam ruler bit got confused on the math as it is not my strongest school of thought. What does 2pi have to do with anything?

@@TheScardyBronyswe I'm not a cosplayer so I haven't really built any costumes out of foam. I don't think you really have to worry about the math I presented. My comment was just a way to show mathematically why Ally's real world construction should work. If you're having trouble getting the right fit, you may want to post a comment directly to Ally, who produced this video. She has a ton of experience and would be much better able to answer your question. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.
