Really wonderful as always. I just love the amount of personality you're able to get out of the cosplayers you feature. I'm curious actually... I know you say you like to take a good bit of time with each person... but how much instruction do you usually give them? As in... do you shy away from being too specific and just try to get them to sort of improvise their movements? My reason for asking is really that, in my more limited experiences working with cosplayers... not all of them have a natural affinity when it comes to the motions involved in video, as opposed to poses for photos. Do you find certain cosplayers take longer really opening up and able to appear more natural? Any tips or techniques you might have on making your subjects more comfortable would be greatly appreciated.

I usually never give any specific actions, just prompts (have a fun time walking, etc) as specific actions can make the talent's action more robotic. But I always give them some positive feedback and explain what I am doing (close up, mid, shot, etc) so they know why the camera is moving in that way and move accordingly. Saying 1,2,3 and action usually helps also as they know when to get ready and in the mood. Some cosplayers do take longer than others to open up, but explaining what you going to do and show recordings of themselves/others usually helps. I always do many takes also and the first takes is usually to see what action they want to do and get comfortable with it. Also for me the first take let me think what shot sizes and framing I want from it. Basically you want it to be a collaboration between you and the cosplayer not one or the other. ^^;
