I agree with sandrik, there should be no reason to be hateful towards anyone. In reality the animosity only exists in the minds of people who create it for themselves. Most of current inhabitants of western russia and ukraine have such intermixed ancestry that it is no longer possible to say who is of what ethnicity. And we all understand that! Lets all love each other, we're all human!!! The world would be a better place.

there are also Ural cossacks who were formed naturally in Russia. So the meaning of the word "cossack" is very common to both Russian and Ukrainian culture which mean and a military man ( when sense of life is a horse and a weapon ). But Ukranian cossacks known mostly as totally crazy (often drunk) warriors with almost unhuman abilities in horse riding while spending life in steppes. And they fought for ukrainian traditions and culture, language and folklore. That's the difference

@ViolinPro88 That's Ukrainian. The letters are in the Cyrillic alphabet. It's quite easy to understand, but most people are used to the Latin alphabet. It's been in use for over a thousand years, so it's safe to say that people know what it means. It's just another alphabet, like the Greek alphabet (which Cyrillic was loosely based off of initially). In case you were wondering, the highest comments are "Long live Ukraine" and "Kozak forever".

@Westyrulz: Also, the languages are EXTREMELY different. They may sound similar to someone who doesn't speak any slavic languages, but arguing that they are the same is like saying that Italian and Spanish are the same language- they may look and sound similar, but there are too many differences for much meaningful crossover. This is not to be confused with the fact that many modern Ukrainians speak Russian- this is a result of the control Ukrainian schools by the USSR.
@DeivizOfSnC13 жыл бұрын
@mjufpn also, if you fail to see the bigger picture, folk also evolves. It should not be stopped short only by recreating the old, but also it should persist on creating new things. In time they will become the newer folk (as me and my friends call it - pop-folk, only 200 years old), and it will integrate into the traditional culture as-well. In case of people like you, the western culture will become your folk, and you will become a mankurt (if you don't know what it means, google it).

@chengloki17 жыл бұрын
Totoro, I have to agree with you, Kozaks can hold there on in a fair fight, Husars never could. What Viz doesn't realize, is that the main Kozak strength was the horsemen with sabers. Kozaks still live today, I am one. =Stefan=

Because it's comfortable? All the traditional cossacks' features (special haircut, long mustache, earring, loose pants) are described by Byzantine historians since from IX-X centuries, Ottoman Empire is mush younger. Those features were probably partly influenced by the remnant Sarmatians, assimilated by Slavs earlier. But, they were Iranians, not Turks. And of course, there were no red pants at all, it's a scenic cliche.

it was natural for an honored Ukrainian family to have weapons in their house and horses. Farthers used to teach their sons to fight, shoot and ride horses from the moment when kids begin to walk. And if war happens - all grown up men leave their families, take weapons and join in a large army. It wasn't a regular army like in any other state. It was part of the culture, and they(ukrainian cossacks) were the first who adopted republic in their cultural states during that times.
@daniils.686811 жыл бұрын
Kuban Cossacks managed to save some from Ukrainian culture in their sociaty. They still exist and live in Russia very close to Ukrainian borders. They even speak in a language which have both Russian and Ukrainian words. These *fights* on youtube doesn't really matter as the people who keep cossacks traditions live both in Russia and Ukraine and I think they don't care about these stupid comments :) you will find many *fights* in Russian-Ukrainian vids because of nationalists

@mjufpn How can something that your ancestors protected,cherished and built be embarrassing?I would wish that in my country there would be folk - culture on every corner. Alas, in my country it is decaying, and only a few people try to salvage what is left from the massive amounts of cultural information, of cultural treasure. I, myself, belong to a few nations, Lithuanian, Latvian, Russian and Ukrainian as-well. And i hope i will get the opportunity to work with all of them.

@IIKainII1 Exactly! It was a Russian propoganda to say that Ukraine means borderland. But they can do nothing about the fact that in OUR UKrainian language "U" means "IN" and Kraina means Country, so Ukraine or Ukraina more proper means "in the country or simply "country"
