+Ivar Exhibition is different from actual fencing and I'd venture a guess that someone as skilled a she is knows the difference as well. Obviously this is not how she or anyone would actually fight, but we can't draw any conclusions from this regarding her fencing ability besides the fact that she obviously has very high level of hand-eye coordination, which would be advantageous in actual fencing as well.
@Jossandoval8 жыл бұрын
+Ivar Yes, just like Maria Sharapova. If they were to even face an armed opponent with saber, or a tennis racket, the dancer and the tennis player would probably loose. Thanks, Captain Obvious. Unless, you know, they are trained in proper saber use or in racket self-defense, since that activities are not incompatible with saber dance or tennis. In fact, one could argue that they are complementary, but thats debatable.

From my experience, the absence of the guard also make the sword more maneuverable in exchange of the hand protection. and from what i heard the shape of the sabre was also used as supportor for aiming muskets.

The Circassians are a North Caucasian ethnic group native to Circassia who were displaced in the course of the Russian conquest of the Caucasus in the 19th century, especially after the Russian-Circassian War of 1862. Circassians mainly speak the Circassian language, but also speak Turkish and Arabic in large numbers, having being exiled by Russia to lands of the Ottoman Empire, where the majority of them today live. The predominant religion amongst Circassians is Sunni Islam.

***** Cossak shashka is different, it has more of a straight blade, but the handle is angled. there is a notch in the hilt, to place a gun. basically Cossak's shashka is a more modern design. Also all of those weapons have same classification Sabre (or Сабля in Russian). Sogdiana or Circassians were not inventors of Sabre. this weapon came from times way beyond. So calm down kiddies following your logic, i would look at Abrams Tank, and say it is British, since first tracked machine with a gun was done by Brits.
@PeopleOfAr13 жыл бұрын
@grittygreenhorn yes they have it's called "shashka". But it originated in South Russia (Caucasus) among Caucasian peoples like Cherkess. A lot of what is called Cossack culture even the clothing originated from these mountainous Caucasian tribes. But As Cossacks predominantly lived in the south it is also their culture and heritage. But yes "shashka" is the Russian national sword. Used officially by the royal guard etc...
