Living in Cape Town and living a somewhat similar lifestyle, this was probably the most realistic perspective I have seen that gives me a better picture of what life could actually look like if I come work from Harare (which I am really considering. Unless if I get to go work abroad first for a bit). I don't shame you at all for your total living expenses. I think as long as you are able to put into savings what you intend on putting in, then you are really good. Does not mean you can't do better at managing your finances at all, it just means that you are not terrible at it and you deserve to live the way you see fit at the end of the day. I am really happy that you have a job that pays you enough for you to afford living the lifestyle that you are living. I truly wish that to anyone and especially to people our age. I am so glad to see this is where you are in life. I remember hearing about you when I was in high school and you had excelled at A levels. It makes me happy that even though many people our age don't really get to experience the life that their hardwork ought to afford them, the fact that you are among the few who can, is really encouraging. I am early into my career as a software dev and it's probably going to be a few more years before I can earn as much as you do, and even with that fact, your talking about this gave me a much needed perspective especially as I am considering the move back home and working from there. What I was curious about is whether you are working for a local company or are working remotely for a company outside the country? I am really still trying to work out this part. I think it's more likely that I would have better odds working for a company outside of the country but I would love to hear you talk about that as well. Thanks Maud!

this is such a heartwarming comment, loved everything. thank you. I am still working remotely, but the company I work for has a local office in Zim to handle salaries, taxes etc

I love that you mention that you've been given so much by people in your life and now you're also paying it forward! And I hope that some of the people you help out go out into the world continue paying it forward. Great video, love such videos🥰 love seeing how other people spend their money. You're living your best life! I love it! You work hard for your money! Enjoy it! Don't even feel guilty or try to 'justify' it Maud.

Yes please do a video about your past salary! 🙏🏽 I love talking about salaries but unfortunately not a lot of people are!! My cost of living is average for a working person, Luckily I still live at home, so a lot of my money goes to him! 😂 I don't have a weekend budget cause I'm always home, I am more of an introvert, plus I no longer have a live in nanny to look after my son when I go out! But would love to start going out more, even with my son, especially in the summer months we go out a bit more. Either than that, There isn't anything over the top that I spend money on, apart from buying a new luxury perfume every other month cause I love perfumes. I want to be stricter with saving and investing! I want to make it a habit. I also want to spend leas money on food at work(even though its twice a week) I normally but breakfast and lunch as well as a Chai Latte.

hahahaha, am so glad i dont go to work physically because that is usually just a cost center on its own. and if you have the priviledge of staying at home with your sanity, please take it. such a saving hack. I also want to learn about investing - the video will come on 25 July

Thank you so much for sharing with us your personal finance records. In the interest of time you can also educate us on what you do with the balance you manage to save. What kind of investments do you have? What is your risk appetite like? When do you plan to reach financial independance i.e when your residual income from investments exceed your expenses.
@CareersWithMaud Жыл бұрын
Financial independence by the time i am 35 there about. No pressure. My main source of income will most likely be employment income for a while since I believe in upskilling and charging for my scarce skills. I only share here what I think is important information but lacks in the public domain, and i think my residual income is not really needed here, lol

Hi Maud Thanks for the videos. Just realised that you, unfortunately have been let go. Yah, this life, l mean if it can happen to you, then noone is safe, given your profile, your achievements and the fact that you are a CA(Z)! Anyway such is the state or should we say the default setting of our economy, it never seems to change, so its one of those things. Anyway here is a thought been reading news about the serious shortage of talent like yourself in the US. Apparently not everyone thinks Audit is the end all and be all ( a message our countrymen should hear) apparently some prefer data analytics, IT, cosmetic surgey etc. Anyway its so bad the CPA body even loosened somewhat the requirements for qualifying as numbers studying accounting and progressing onto the professional qualification have been falling, l might have seen a number like 22% or something and it seems the trend is the same in SA with less people doing the degree, the CTA and exams so that's something to think about.. Furthermore with an entry level salary for an accounting Grad at about US65 000. Thats not bad at about 5,5K, which looks good provided you are not in a very expensive city. l cannot begin to imagine how much they would pay a fully qualified and experienced professional such as yourself. So if l were you l would go but you know your personal situation, things like family, friends and comfort zones may come into play. So l would really consider making the move. I mean what's there to lose? By the way its not just the US hiring so if you for whatever reason want another place it should be possible. l am aware of the SAPRO and Makosi offers but sometimes experiences are best. So have a look at it. If it doesn't work out you can always go home or do the remote working. About going out that is great, some do believe in working hard should also naturally be followed by playing hard. Anyway as long as you can maintian, save and so on, its really noone's business how you use it. Just hope there is no regret later but then again you are only 25!

Oh dear. Thank you so much for this comment. As a CA, one of the good things is I have a valuable skill, which means I can sell it in a lot of other places. I was out of work for only 2 weeks🤣🤣, I am employed now. I really appreciate you taking time to write this. And yes, i am only 25. I can chow all my money and be fine🤣🤣. I just wanted to be sensitive to other people who earn less than that and acknowledge it. Again, thank you
