Quite intrigued. Good information. I am a divorced, retired, senior Canadian, kids are independent, am thinking of relocating, at least, temporarily if not permanently, can you direct me to long term rental accommodation in or around the area that you are discussing? No pets, only me, perhaps in the $600-$1K per month rental? Thanks. Cam, Calgary Alberta
@ItllBeFun2 жыл бұрын
Ola Cam, Sorry we did not see your question. Please note that when you ask a question attached to someone else's comment it does not come up for us to see. For rentals they are not easy to find. Try contacting Apartamentos. When renting you need to be ready to do so, at that time. They go quickly. Have a wonderful day Alan

Absolutely loved your comment. It is true what you said: considering the size of the country, it has everything. When I have been in Portugal I am so extremely happy. It is everything! I quite didn’t understand the comment about the food but I when in Portugal I eat so good and healthy. I don’t eat meat any longer for many years, but yes to fish. The best fish I have had in my life is in Portugal. The vegetables, the milk and cheeses and those delicious Pastéis de Nata that can be found everywhere. You made a great choice. Portugal is that hidden jewel that suddenly people around the world seem to have discovered. Yet it is an country with one of the richest histories in the world, charming towns, kind people. And above all, it is among the top safest countries in the whole world. Enjoy everything. I am so happy for you. Best wishes from Sonoma, California.

We have been living in Mexico for a little over four years. It was the best move we have ever made. We bought a home with a fantastic view and ease of access to all the needed amenities. Portugal was our second choice, and is still on our radar if we ever feel the need to move. Living in a foreign country is not as difficult as many people think it would be. Thanks for sharing this video. We'll stay in touch.

Beyers- if you married a Mexican woman she will take you to Mexico- off course- the same with other Latin countries. In fairness: it's stupid to compare Mexico to Portugal... because Portugal is 100 times better than Mexico. And I can show it in many ways. But the American people who go to Mexico are Americans with little or no money, so they can't look to quality of life but cheap life... well Portugal has for rich and poor depend where you go. But do not try put Portugal as a match with Mexico. I know US and Mexico and know the entire Portugal...Portugal am Portuguese but very fair is to live the best country in Europe. But, I would not go to live in Madeira, I would visit Madeira and Acores but not to live, I have reasons for this.

Very nice, peaceful and informative video! We've just returned from a 4-day family trip to Madeira. That was unforgettable. You couldn't have made a best choice for life quality. Had I known this channel beforehand, I wish I could have met you in person, had a quick coffee somewhere in Funchal, and hear some more of your amazing experiences and just get inspired. We are from Brazil and have recently gained our Portuguese nationality. My dad is a Portuguese-Brazilian just at your age (he's 65), retired, and although the language is not a big problem for us, he would be so scared to make that move abroad. He and my mom have lived their whole lives in Brazil, and were astonished by the beauty of the island. Looking forward to watching your next videos. Obrigado e toda sorte a você e sua família! André.

Very informative! I’ve scratched Portugal off my list due to the increase in cost of living since it’s become a hot spot for westerners moving abroad! 2500 a month is not affordable to me, although not what I’d consider high either. I’m looking more at Eastern Europe now like Montenegro where you can live comfortably for more like 1000 to 1500 a month! At 2500 a month I might as well stay in the US with higher wages and end up in the same boat. Glad you were honest about what it costs there! Thank you! Too high for me.

I've been thinking the same thing. Most places I would enjoy going at nearing that 3k a month which upsets me because many of the expats are renters. If the cost keeps going up at these rates it's just not a good long term option. I think with full home ownership I can hit the same number but I really wish I could afford leaving the American culture. We have just gotten too toxic.

Thanks for this! I was planning to move to Portugal on a D7 but I learned last year that I'm an Italian Citizen by Descent - I 'only' have to prove it to the Italian Government. I'm in the midst of having the necessary documents corrected, etc. I'll move to Italy to have my Citizenship acknowledged and get my EU Passport...then I can live or work anywhere in Europe. I'm still interested in Portugal but may be based in Italy. When I leave the US, I won't go back ever - no family, no reason to be here. Glad to have your current expenses video! I'll be following your Channel from now on. Best of Luck!!!

Thank you and I look forward to your next story!
@ItllBeFun2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeannine, Thank you for watching and supporting our channel. We applied for our NIF while still in the USA. We used a service in order to make things easier for the NIF. They acted on our behalf. We actually created our bank account when we came for our 6 weeks stay prior to applying for our Visa. When here on your scouting mission is a great time to secure a rental. The service we used for the NIF is www.Eimigrante.pt. They can also help with many other things. For your Visa process you can also take a look at VFS global Visa application. As with everything there are lots of companies that you can use or you can apply directly yourself for many of things you will need during the process. Have a wonderful day, Leslie and Alan

@ItllBeFun2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis, Thank you for watching. We did not medicate either animal. They both flew in the hold due to there size. It was not recommended in case they got sick. No one would be there to help them if they choked. And if medicated they may not be able to help themselves. It was a long trip and they both did fabulous. All of our fears were for naught. We worried for months prior to the trip. Let us know what additional questions you have. Have a wonderful day, Alan and Leslie

Hi Zahra, We are currently renting but plan on purchasing next year. We were not sure where we wanted to be on the Island. We have chosen to buy in Sao Martinho since it is close to everything. This way we will rent for the first couple years and then purchase. Also in the future, depending on how the economy holds, we hope to purchase a rental on the North side of the Island in order to generate income. We truly love the North side. What area do you currently like the best? Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. Alan and Leslie

Last October we went to Lisbon, Porto, Avero, Aveiro, and to the Douro Valley and then onto the Algarve. Two weeks ago we stayed In Nazare for ten days and explored the silver coast. We loved them all but we don’t want to be in a big city anymore. We are looking for more of a village feel where we can also walk everywhere. Do you mean Soa Martinho da Porto? Or is there one on Madeira?

Thanks for the nice review, appreciated. We considered the Algarve in Portugal and places like Ibiza, Majorca, Corsica even Hawaii (to expensive) in the end we ended up in Andalusia Spain after Arizona/California for 40 years. All beautiful places you can not go wrong if you have a positieve attitude. One important thing to consider is being on an island, your are ltd travel “wise” as we like road trips very much, so much to discover in Europe with different vibes/cultures in a day drive, Portugal Lisbon only 4 hours, Bilbao, San Sebastian, Barcelona, 6-8 hours, Bordeaux 10 hours and on. Can’t wait for your next review and how the car transport went.
