We drove from Vientiane, north to Phongsali, stopping at various locations along the way. We then drove south to Nakasong and back to Vientiane. It took us 16 days. Our lodging was cheap, about $10.00 per day. Food was also cheap. Some of the hotels/motels included breakfast, some didn't. Phongsali was the most dramatic location we visited. The weather was extremely cool and the people were most friendly.

Good vid mate, - Having a travel buddy who speaks the lingo is crucial - it just takes the strain off everything I find and opens up real communication for finding hidden gems. Id have been buggered in Isaan without my mrs tho she, like Neenee, found herself struggling with the real rural folk who live near borders etc where the language is so specialised. Being able to communicate sure saves time and a whole lot of pain. $ well spent there mate without a doubt a bargain for what you and we viewers got out of it.

I prefer Laos to remain unspoilt, little as possible tourists. Exploitation of the young and youths saddens me.

have to mention to anyone that wants to visit these little villages, you need to be out of there and back at your guest house by night fall or you will be arrested and fined.. foreigners cannot stay in the natives residential houses even if you have permission from the village head, the police will come and fine you

False. Every night we ate at restaurants and returned after dark, nobody cared. Where else are you supposed to eat?

@@NowinLao it's the truth m8t...maybe i didn't specified the specifics but you cannot stay overnight in these small villages unless you stay in a guest house..if you in a guest house then you OK...I know from personal experiences...go visit and then go back to your guest house to sleep...if you don't they will wake you up in the middle of the night to fine you..promise

i enjoy your channel but Laos is not the western countries and you cannot just go to some random small villages in the mountain and stay after dark and no one will come and talk to you..truth is not a big deal in big city like vien chang and luag pra bang but it's not the same in these small villages...just to point that out to foreigners .. after dark go back to your guest houses

@@Thomas-ck1tm now if you had put it that way in your original comment I would've agreed with you, but to say you will be arrested if you're not back at your guest house by nightfall is a little misleading.

Hi Thomas I have lived in a village in Lao, for the last 7 years, and the law is you can only accommodate someone who is not a relative if you are a registered accommodation business. If you are part of a family then staying over night is not against the law. When my brother visited from NZ we had to register at the police station, and pay a fee, but it was a legal act. The only issue is where you sleep, not where you go to eat for the evening.

Hi Todd,,,soooooo wonderfully inexpensive! Because we think the same,,,I think I know why you got sidetracked talking about things,,about those people being so accepting and friendly. They absolutely are not required to be nice,,but they are,,they are interested in you. Todd,,you are a humble,,friendly person,,,you are interested in them, their lives,,equipment,,etc.. and they feel that. Thinking back on that , makes us emotional. Dude,,,,me not even being there,,I've got emotional about many things you've shown. The little girl asking for cookies after you ran out,,,the young guy spending his own money,,and time to teach English for a couple examples. I get emotional about that stupid secret war,,,about beautiful women I will never meet. Lol What was the name of the squatter guesthouse,,POO viang? Maybe not stay in towns called Poo? Lmao,,,that owner was so sweet and helpful,,,how could you NOT want to stay there? You and Neenee make every trip beautiful,,,by what you say,,and your interactions with the people. You have that magical ability, to make us feel we are there,,,part of the trip. To me,,,traveling is seldom about sites you plan to see,,traveling is about the unexpected beauty you see around the next corner..its about communicating with people whose language you dont have a clue about,,but understand completely. I KNOW you know what I mean,,,because I've watched you do it a dozen times. Thank you so very much,! Dad watched the English teacher vids just the other day,,,and was very impressed. He saw some brochures that he has used himself,,to teach a group of Mexican kids English a few years ago,,,before he was 80. He thought that was very cool. Take care of yourselves, brother,,Ttyl,,,Marlon
