Engine mounts are ICT billet part number 551628 Also you will need a manual transmission flywheel from an LS, a cheap or free used one will be fine. I forgot to mention about the shifter ignition cutout, any questions on that just ask.

I do Marine repair for a living I am very impressed with your work and how you plumbed everything and the installation. Your brought up something that I have been wondering about for years the bowl vents on the Holleys have always wondered if there as any difference from a automotive Holley to Marine other than the bowl vents I had no clue you could buy these and convert them over , The Holley was discontinued on my boat its a 650 spread bore at the last time it was avaiable it was almost $1000 thanks for that info

My brother did this exact same swap on a 17” maxum. With an alpha and a 5.3 truck motor with a decent cam he’s getting 70mph, and it sounds badass. He’s on holly efi because carbs are for lawnmowers

May I make a suggestion? Please get rid of the fuel pressure gauge in the engine compartment if the gauge fails and shoots fuel out of the gauge into your engine compartment and there is a spark you will blow up your boat and everybody will get killed . All it take is one leak of fuel either out of the fitting or out of the fuel pressure gauge and you are done. You can pull the gauge put in a pip plug and seal it and keep the gauge in the boat and if you ever have fuel pressure problems you can install the gauge temporally to check fuel pressure but take out the fuel gauge its not safe ,Are you willing to roll the dice on a chinese fuel gauge?
@JohnnyAnderson16 ай бұрын
Your 100% correct, I don't plan on keeping it on there for long. I do wanna keep it for a few more runs because the boat was sitting so long with fuel in it that I tried to clean out, if I have any trouble I'd like to pop the hatch and verify fuel pressure quickly. I actually did have the engine stall out last time I went out and it was fuel pressure related. I agree though, that guage is NOT staying on there.

great low buck swap! my question is how you hooked up MSD for lower rpm when shifting, is there a section in one of your videos?
@JohnnyAnderson15 ай бұрын
@cantrela no, and honestly, I still haven't got it to work correctly. There are several people who have made the factory switch work, but my shift interrupt switch will not adjust correctly and kits a crap design IMO. As of right now I just have the msd retard hooked up to a toggle switch right now that I flip AFTER I shift to neutral. I have heard I can hook it up to kill one bank of coil ground, which I may try also.

im confused, if boat speed is hardcore dependent on RPM then would it not make sense to swap in a turbo 4 cyl and mate that to a nice transmission (should inboard boats have that) considering they can make same power and and at a higher rpm? im just curious cause i havent seen it yet (or looked it up rather)
@JohnnyAnderson15 ай бұрын
@dustinhenry8598 Honestly, I have always wondered why boats didn't have transmissions, but since you take off with a 1to1 ratio and prop the boat for max rpm at top speed, there really isnt a need. My boat planes out in less than 3 seconds (probably 2) so a lower gear would not help at all on holeshot. I do know that some of the larger heavier boats do have them. And I could see a benefit if your boat goes 100+ mph it would allow you to cruise at lower speeds.
@petermclean95453 ай бұрын
Change that drive 1:50 to1 thats the v8 drive then 19 to 21 pitch prop and you should be 50mph or higher after the drive is pitched up
@JohnnyAnderson13 ай бұрын
@petermclean9545 I do plan to swap it, I'm hitting 57-58 mph as it sits with a 24 pitch prop
@davidmasters14244 ай бұрын
If a person is not that mechanically inclined or lacks the space or tools/equipment to do this swap could someone recommend a source to do this ?
@JohnnyAnderson14 ай бұрын
@davidmasters1424 It would more than likely need to be a shop that does custom work. You could ask a marine repair facility, but they don't like going away from original equipment most of the time.

@brendandonovan90405 ай бұрын
@@JohnnyAnderson1 do you plan on putting a cam in it? Wonder what speeds it would hit then.
@JohnnyAnderson15 ай бұрын
@brendandonovan9040 Yes, I will definitely be doing a cam swap, looking like a stage 2 truck cam or something with similar specs. My boat is not a "speed" boat hull so honestly 60mph is more than enough top speed in it. I figure I might pick up 2 mlh with a 750 carb and maybe another 5 or 6 with the cam swap. Cruises really good at 40 to 45
@brendandonovan90405 ай бұрын
@@JohnnyAnderson1 nice that’s awesome and so I could put a 5.3 in any boat with a aplha correct?
@JohnnyAnderson15 ай бұрын
@brendandonovan9040 As long as it was a 4.3, 5.0, or 5.7. Technically, it will mount to the 3.0 4cylinder outdrive, but the engine mounts are WAY different from the V6 and V8 stuff.

@petermclean9545 yea I'd love the switchable exhaust but not worth $1500 for this boat. Also it's not super heavy so it should be ok, it probably makes less torque down low than the 350 did.
@petermclean95453 ай бұрын
You really didn't change the cam to a marine cam. You can't have more than 110 lob separation. It will eventually suck water in and blow the ls
@JohnnyAnderson13 ай бұрын
@petermclean9545 it's a stock cam, the overlap of the cam is what would cause reversion and suck in water, it takes a fairly mild aftermarket cam to get into any overlap so that is not a problem. I do plan on swapping to a decent size cam with 4 degrees overlap but even that isn't enough to cause reversion
