I am 71 years old and am planning to move to Costa Rica next year. I had a professional career, was married twice, and raised two boys. I moved to Saint Augustine, FL, 11 years ago for the climate and the city's history. I have done everything possible to make friends and to date. The people here aren't exactly unfriendly, there attention is consumed by whatever they are doing at the moment. They seldom greet each other outside of my church family. As a single man with SS and a pension, I can afford to live most anywhere in the world. I like what Sarah and Michael have been saying about CR, but don't feel I need a relocation retreat. My time in Florida is rapidly drawing to a close. With the contacts I am gaining through Sarah's relocation service, I think I will adjust to the my new country just fine❤.

No only does gringo pricing is among us. Also when you have a nice house among the locals in a decent neighborhood , and when a contractor/ worker sees the nicely built house. The price quote changes based on the nice house. It has happened to us here in the Central Valley.

Fantastic video! I can't understand how anyone could possibly go somewhere and attempt to impose their version of reality. Adopt, accept and understand the environment you are in. It's great to see you calling out these people because they are far too commonplace. It doesn't matter what country it is in, you can be taken advantage of ANYWHERE. Your group of contacts truly is fantastic and as you've said many times before contacts are everything. Work with people you trust, pay what you need to pay to get the results you are expecting. Bottom line, you need to accept responsibility for your choices. Pura Vida!

Many people lose their minds because things aren't done the same way that they done where they were from. Americans and Canadians seem to be in this mindset. Not all, by any means. But, many do. They seem to complain about everything and anything, I've told someone after hearing them complain on and on, that if they hated it so much why don't they leave. The look l got was of shock. I just shrugged and walked away. I don't like people that bring their negativity with them Every country is different, embrace it, or go somewhere else. I dislike people that come and do nothing buy complain. Costa Rica was nice enough to let you in, enjoy it and be thankful that they allowed you to stay. The positives way outweigh any of the little challenges.

I sound like a broken record but people visit CR and stay in places like high end Marriotts and Hiltons. They think they really "know" CR. They move there and export their North American lifestyle, a new car, fancy house in an expat community, frequent visits to high end restaurants, and then they turn around and complain that CR is too expensive. They literally live like 1% of Ticos and constantly complain.

Been living in CR two Months now, Guanacaste Prov. And for us being in a touristy hub groceries are expensive regardless of local or Automercado, because they have you over a barrel travel to Liberia or not..most dont because the 2 lane hwy is crowded. But you can find affordable food, accomodations etc if you csn sacrifice some comfort "wants". I have consciously decided 3 yrs ago to simplify my life amd its slowing down thats the toughest ti do. I had 3 yrs to prepare amd it helped. I am definitely missing riding motorcycle so that void will be filled soon. Pura Vida..

In a way I’m guilty of the same thing. We moved from kind to animals and people, far south rural Chicago, to hate everybody, cruel to animals west Tennessee. I find the culture vile. We are 64 and 69 and have health issues, He won’t move. So I post on the internet all the time, if you love animals, and or come from a gentle Christian church..west Tennessee is not for you.

Nice chat boys! Anywhere in the world you go it is best to learn and assimilate into the culture, the people who do that excel and the whiners often get left in the dust .When going to a different country to live the sooner a person adapts to the culture the better. Here in the U.S. so many new people refuse to accept the language and culture, and it takes their families generations to assimilate. The standard you and Johney spoke of would work everywhere in this world. Also, I appreciate all businesses need to make money to survive but if I'm going out to eat, I want to know what the price on the menu shows and if there is no price I do no business. I hope the whiners you speak of see this podcast and realize it is not the Costa Rican people that are the reason they whine.

Straight complaining is one thing. But i hear people asking why isnt something done differently for better results and people just say "well...this is a third world country" that is not the reason. Nor is the population. Locals and expats suffer from lack of action and forsight. Ex: toxic pectides and fertilizers or high import taxes. This effects the quality of goods and prices for everyone. "Nice" things dont need to be expensive if people are open to learning new ways to create. Future generations are not being helped as much if everyone is just about relaxing today. People should be able to travel anywhere if they arent hard criminals. the land is not yours bc you were born there. No one knows the true history of conquer, migration, etc to say "this is my land, you need my permission to visit". I heard some people from the states are jaded when it comes to language since more and more jobs ask for bilingual, businesses and government cater to it & many never bother to learn english, but when you go abroad they are expected to know their language with little help. Fair prices are difficult when you dont know a local. If we cant trust each other to be fair on prices anywhere then what are humans doing? Look at the state of us, sad.
