Andy's Fishing Wild Cook

Andy's Fishing Wild Cook

4 жыл бұрын

I head out on a costal mud flat in tropical north Queensland where i find crabs, mud skipper, shells, critters and some fish. I show you a mud sled that I made in about 2 hours and do a catch and cook by the ocean, steamed crabs.
This is my video food journal or video food diary of delicious freshly caught foods in the wild, by the sometimes semi naked chef! #fishing #wildcook #catchandcook

You’re a legend Andy, and you’ve been a huge source of inspiration for me. I’m not an experienced angler, but i’ve done a bit over the years here and there, but not enough to feel like I really know what I’m doing. I just came back from a few weeks camping down the south coast of NSW where I fished almost every day...it was awesome. Tailor and salmon off the beach and the rocks. Bream in the lakes, flatties in the estuaries, whiting in the shallows...watching you over the last year has really motivated me to get out there, and has also taught me a lot. Thanks for all that you do mate. Cheers from the Blue Mountains. 👍

Really like what you do, Andy. Anyone can post “catch, clean, cook” videos, but there are just some guys who bring a level of intelligence, curiosity, and desire to not only entertain, but also educate such that their finished product feels like something a high school biology teacher would show their students if they wanted to grab and hold their attention. Don’t know if you follow Bob Hansler, but he’s another one generating some epic content (and, based on personal conversations with him, I can say he’s also a hell of a nice guy and a conscientious steward of the wild spaces). On that last note, points to you for tossing the berried females back. Very conservation-minded. May your future be blessed with an overabundance of crabs. Should you ever find yourself in Florida again, I’ve been here for over forty years and would be more than happy to be your guide to the Everglades, Islamorada, and a few places to the north.

Hi Andy, I suggest a better way to improve your mud sled base on my experiences when I was a kid in Vietnam(my hometown) The key is you only have to care about the width, the length is not really effect to the drag. So the width on your sled is good enough. Now you just need to improve 2 things, load capacity and comfortable when using the sled for cover long distant. You should double the length on your sled(may be just make another section and connect to the original one), but try to focus the weight(your body resting) on 1/3 the length from the back. For comfortably, put a bicycle seat(instead of knee like people do on Google) and a T bar handle(may be copy the design look like letter H) so I suggest find an old(broken) bike, take the seat and the T bar handle. Connect to the sled by "the floor pipe adapter" or "pipe floor flange", the material should be cast iron or copper, find a steel pipe that fit outside the pipe of the bicycle seat, BUT let the seat move free left and right or it will crush your nuts, the high on both of the seat and T bar could be the same and about 40-60cm high from the sled. With the bicycle seat, you can freely use both legs and rest your body on the sled. The "knee mud sled" will kill your waist and your back, unless you want to have a waist look like model. 😁. Also, rubber boots won't work in mud, use an old pair of socks to protect your feet. Just rinse them off or may be dispose them away after use. Those are cheap and effective way proved by people in Vietnam.

Really looking forward to swedish summer, going to try a lot of the things i can forage right on the cliffs of Bohuslän... (north of my city of Gothenburg, seafood capital of Sweden) lots of small shrimp, crabs and a whole lot of giant oysters, considered an invasive species...

Worth mentioning the shells need to make it all the way to the bush when you chuck them, if 100 people chucked the shell is the same spot it would stink up real bad.

Here in Toronto, there is nothing to explore. We've gone to creeks and lakes in the summer and you're lucky if you find a small turtle. It's better if you live near an ocean not a polluterd, barren lake such as Lake Ontario.

Cockles will be tough over cooked. you need to have them with a sauce made with green/red chilies, garlic, lime, chopped shallots, fish sauce and lemongrass. Same can be used for grilled fish. guaranteed heavenly

2:35 that it's called window pane oyster, the one that you picked up it's still small they can get as big as 25+ cm in diameter, they are edible and pretty tasty just don't overcook them, next time if you happen to come across one of those be sure to keep them
