Thank You for doing this video. I had the hole cut and the old fan torn out when I realized this was not best retrofit fan for a single electrical lead. Your wiring explanation saved the day for me and I was able to get it installed. Who cares about the timer and humidity features. I will not be purchasing this same model to replace the other fans in my house. Broan and COSTCO owe you a royalty for saving frequent returns!

I believe the instructions do make mention of the required smart switch... although this fan is horrible. Mine is a slightly newer model but has the eletrical wires coming out between the fan blades... the malformed plastic blades cut through most of the wires

God bless you sir. This was exactly what I needed. What I did not need was a fan that's driven by the dew point in my bathroom; that I can figure out on my own. Again - thank you!

Hey all, I just replaced my old exhaust fan with this exhaust fan w/light. The instructions are a bit vague on some of the installation instructions, especially for the wiring. If you take a good look at the wiring diagrams you will note that this model is for a 2 switch (light & fan) or for a 3 switch (light, fan & humidity sensor). Also note on the wiring diagram that the gray wire is optional for the 2 switch. Which completes the circuit for the humidity sensor. I’m using the 2 switch. One switch controls the fan and humidity sensor and the other switch controls the light…and fan. Yes, I have the fan and the light on one switch. So the interesting thing is that if I have both switches on, once I just turn off the light switch the fan will continue to run until the humidity is reduced enough that the sensor shuts off the fan. This may get annoying but I think it will work for me for now. May change it out later where the light is controlled by one switch and the fan on the other switch but then you’ll loose the functionality of the humidity sensor. Ugh! This should have all be explained in the installation guide. My 2 cents, hope this helps.

Thank God. Found this video. Whatever I do , fan never runs unless we have 3 live wires. Only option is to connect black(light) , grey(fan) to a single black from source and connect the whites. I am struggling from a week. Thanks for your help. Useless wiring diagrams. Please note that even ignoring the moisture control connections, we still have to connect the internal wires socket from the moisture control unit (square one) to the unit.
@08c6vette2 жыл бұрын
No you don't, If you're not going to use the humidity and timer function you can simply cut the black wire coming from the moisture control unit that feeds the fan outlet (you may have to lengthen it) and use that to directly feed your fan without having to go through the moisture control unit first. Then you can run the fan and light together from one switch or if you have two switches you can control them separately. You can then completely eliminate the moisture control unit and the plugs and wires associated with it if you want.

In-laws just bought a house with these in two bathrooms. There are two single-pole switches in the junction box, and the current wiring has fan/light on one switch, and a switch that “doesn’t do anything” when flipped. Looks like there’s a hot wire and the red humidity wire going to the worthless switch. Neutrals are all connected with a wire nut, and all but one black/grey are connected with a wire nut. Grounds are twisted together. Is there a way to rewire so the light function is on one switch, and the fan is on the other switch, so they can each run independently?

Hi! Super informational video! I just rented a suite and I’m a nail tech, my landlord said this item was the one I needed to get rid of the monomer smell but I can’t find anything about odor on this item. It just says “humidity” so wrong fan?
@auggie17902 жыл бұрын
This is a very low volume extractor fan. You probably need higher cfm for nail polish odors. But if ok w you, then just use fan function. That's what you need. Humidity sensor would not apply to your application.

I want to replace my old bathroom fan with a Costco CST80SL BROAN bathroom fan. There are 2 switches 1 for fan and other for light. Can I combine fan + humidity together 1 switch and other for light?
@DLong-wp8su2 жыл бұрын
I installed 2 fans today. They are working great. The light/fan on 1 switch and the humidity on other switch. I set my humidity 65% and timer at 7 minutes. It is very useful feature if you want to run 7 more minutes at any humidity in the room without left the light ON, just turn the switch OFF & ON again did the trick.

@08c6vette2 жыл бұрын
You’ve probably already figured out the problem as your post was 9 days ago but an easy test to make sure it’s not the unit is to take the fan out of the unit and plug it into a 120v house outlet, if it doesn’t turn on you’ve got a dud, if it does you’ve got something wired wrong.

@auggie17902 жыл бұрын
Then you need the 3 separate switches like in the vid. One for each function. The wiring example simply replaces the "automatic sensor function" by one turning it off manually along with the light.

Can you combine the fan, h. sensor, and light on one power line?

@@mattlucca32 I must have misunderstood your question. You can do humidity and fan only if you have two separate hots coming off a double switch. ( instead of triple, as shown in vid). If you only have one hot, then it won't work because even when humidity level is reached, the fan only portion will not shut off. I hope that helps!
