I got this set for free from a raffle and I was impressed with this set. The wrenches are pretty nice. I was most surprised with the ratchets. They feel really nice but I haven't tortured them at all. The set is missing some important sizes so it can't be the only set but it's good for trips and stuff.

I have the exact set in black so now gunna have to check out the chrome set but like the black set I purchased it at cosco for $99 but I'm not a member there just happened to been there with someone who was but like a week of so later the lowered there price to $79 but they looked it up & saw it was $99 then so they refunded the $20 on the spot no receipt or anything so with this set at the same $99 price tag I'm gunna pick it up & hope it goes lower again....great video keep em coming.....

Good video!! Sadly i feel that the quality of Dewalt Mechanics tools is slipping since SBD launched Craftsman. First it was the disappearance of the anti slip opens on Dewalt combination wrenches. This was followed by Dewalt moving to that funky groove detent on the socket's female square drive, ala older craftsman sockets. I really like the 72 tooth pear head ratchet in that set along with their flex head versions and the Italian made round head ratchets that are USAG clones with the comfortable Dewalt all metal handle. However, I'm reluctant to buy Dewalt mechanics tools since their quality is slipping. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to see this is a tuff set of tools.. It definitely looks good! I have this set in my truck tool box and have only used it a few times. I have used the sockets on my Milwaukee 1/2 " impact to remove lug nuts and they did just fine. Don't care for their power tools, but their hand tools are nice for sure.

I have the black chrome set that costco is selling now. Done a few basic repairs on my car with them and I like the tools. You do gotta be careful opening/closing the case so you don't dump all your tools on the ground.

I have a similar set thats all sockets, no wrenches and drivers. The ratchets are quick release and I imagine the anvils are likely slightly weaker as a result, but can confirm they've proven to be tough as Hell so far. Also, all my sockets are the oval type detent, not sure why yours has a mix.

You can use a towel. I used some Linoleum I had back in the corner of my garage. But replace that cheap piece of foam on the inside with something more substantial. Cut it to fit, and be done with it.

Felt like I missed out when I saw a photo of this set on sale at COSTCO for $79.99 last November and I needed a set to work on my car but this set does not give great coverage for the upper end and the glaring fact that it does not have deep 1/2" mm sockets at all. No Quick release too which isn't much a deal breaker to me if quality but I know others it would be more of so. Am going with the DeWalt 192-piece set even though theres less coverage for the small mm's I guess that's what the 1/4'' part is for and don't need a lot of torque anyway. Getting a complete set of wrenches 6-24, maybe 6-32 from Tekton.

Those locking mechanism on the case are prone to wear out quickly. Wouldve prefer a slide lock to stay fully secured in the event that it slip out of your hands and hit the ground hard. The case wouldnt come open unless you unlock it.

Since you seem to be the expert at ratchet destruction, would you do one on the fine tooth vs the course tooth? I know Craftsman still has the old 36 tooth style available. See if, like I suspect, the lower tooth count are stronger than their fine tooth counterparts.

I think most socket sets will hold up if used as they should be.. cheater pipes is where you run into problems on 3/8 ratchets and up.. 1/4 dtive you might break without cheating.. am i wrong?

Wikivids listed the DeWalt ratchet as their #1 best for the money two years in a row, but I have no idea what they based their criteria on. ((((( I've been told that the DeWalt ratchet shares internal components with other Stanley-Black N Decker brands like Proto and Mac's Expert line. Which is very possible since it's all the same parent company. ((((Another KZbin channel cut open the head of one of the new Craftsman Gunmetal chrome ratchets and discovered that it had the same internal gears as a Stanley ratchet sold by Wal-Mart.

You should try the 192 pc socket set ratchets. They have the same type of sockets. But it’s a hell of a deal. $120-$150 depending. They’re quick release ones.

I have one of those 3/8 drive Dewalts I bought in a 90 pc kit and I can tell you for a fact is stronger than my pittsburgh 3/8 and my craftsman 3/8 too. That ratchet can take a beating!

I just had my 3/8 AND 1/4 inch Craftsman rachets bought in 1978 in the same set break in the same week here last summer. I guess it was their time or someone back then was seriously good on the planned obsolescence. And it wasn't some torture test I was putting on them. They did replace them both at the Sears Hometown store. The new versions are NOT of the same quality in any way shape or form. I also still have my dad's old set. I went ahead and bought this set at $79.99 online in Nov 2019. I'll fill in the holes with my old Craftsman pieces.

Seems they fail right around 300% of useful torque. 1/4 you'd use at most 25ft lbs, 3/8 for 80 ft lbs, and 1/2 for 200 ft lbs. Any more than the useful ratings you should step up the size of the ratchet and socket or go impact or breaker bar. I have a set of Dewalt 1/2 deep 6 point metric sockets and they are definitely quality for the price.

I have a bunch of DeWalt hand tools, the are pretty decent tools although I never cared for the deep socket length and my ratchets were super easy to bump from tighten to loosen, again I find the more I use Tekton the happier I am so I keep my DeWilts as back up.

Thanks for doing a thorough test on this. Too many reviews open, look at the tool, and do a soft test. But without a failure test, you never know if they're going to snap (which is common with cheaper kits). I'd be curious how this compares to the new DWMT45184 unit (item# 1841840) at Costco (I believe it replaced this) or if it's primarily just a color change (black).

They are about the same. The black chrome doesn’t show the dirt and oil as much as chrome. The newer black chrome does wear differently then chrome but they function and work the same.

Debating on which set to go with right now. Really like the Craftsman 150 piece set in gunmetal chrome. For some reason I keep goin back to it I like the looks of it and the case seems really nice as well. The main thing is it seems to have the best assortment and lots of sockets. Not much filler/junk either. I don't have a particular Dewalt set in mind but overall would you recommend the Craftsman gunmetal set or a Dewalt set? I don't care about the Craftsman wrenches being serviceable or not. Just want the set that will last the longest and both have lifetime warranty anyways. Also don't wanna deal with a crappy case that loosens up causing sockets to fall when you open it. Idk which cases are better but the few times I opened a dewalt set at Tractor Supply sockets fell out and would not stay in

Between the two Dewalt and Gun Metal Craftsman it’s a toss up. Probably go which ever is cheaper or has the ratchet you want or has the most sockets or best coverage. Gun Metal is quick release and some of the Dewalt sets may or may not be quick release ratchets. The gun metal sockets don’t come in singles so if you lose one or have to warranty it you may not get a gun metal one back. Both can be a phone call away for warrant since they are both owned by Stanly Black & Decker. That being said I own both if you can catch the Dewalt on-sale you can get a really great valued set that people talk very little about and it will really last for years for a DIYer

It didn't beat Milwaukee which 3/8 failure was at 300ft/lbs . This Dewalt set isn't quick release so if grease gets on socket wont be easy to switch socket. But overall its durable set

Shame it doesn’t have a 5.5 mm. 7/32 can work but it’s a little sloppy. I used my 5.5 a lot on GM DIS coil replacements.

While I find it interesting and entertaining, I can't see how it matters that much to me how much torque a ratchet handles. Im sure most would be using a breaker bar - that would be nice to see tests done - or battery/air impacts.

The black chrome are the same just the different finish. The black to me rubs off and wears different compared to regular chrome, but they operate and work identical. It’s purely cosmetic and a personal preference. The $99 set will drop in price $10-20 dollars usually so catch it on a sale👍🏻

These DeWalt Ratchets have been on the market much much much longer than than the new Craftsman stuff. Possibly they share some internal parts with Mac Tools, Proto and Expert Tools ratchets (those brands are also owned by Stanley Black N Decker)....There is a KZbin video where a guy dissects one of the new Craftsman Gunmetal chrome ratchets and discovered that it shares internal components with the cheaper Stanley ratchets .

The 32mm M22-2.5 Grade: 8.8 had two good full complete passes if not more like 3 when it was put down. We cut off the threads and put the thickest part of the fastener right to the plate. It's going to take quite a bit to get that to come off✌
