It makes more sense to me to try and preserve your privacy, peace, and quiet, by only hiring the maid/housekeeper for three days a week: say Monday, Wednesday, Saturday. A little dust on the floor for an extra day or two never hurt anybody.

The average live in domestic 6 days a week in Manila pay is around 8000 pesos month and in the province its about 5000 pesos per month, its very low but that's the Philippines

Reading over the comments, people talk about slave-labor and low-wages etc., but it really depends on the situation. There are so many factors that must be considered, and no two situations may be the same. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what other people pay, so long as their helper is happy with the situation and is willing to work for that amount. It's really no one else's business. Some expats will complain no matter what; whether you give too little, or you give too much. To each their own.

You can live really well on $1,500 a month with no problem.. I live in a $250 two-bed two-bath house on the ocean with white sand beach and crystal clear blue water is my front yard and rainforest mountain view from my back patio.. there is a seafood, vegetable and fruit market within walking distance.. I own a small car and motorcycle that is paid for.. I paid $4,000 for a nice small Honda car with the air conditioning and automatic. I am too old to be riding around on a motorcycle but my girl likes the $1000 Honda motorcycle.. I also sent her to driving school and she drives most of the time in the car also... we have air conditioning in the living room and the bedroom and hardly ever use it and we have hot water in the bathroom..i have a big screen TV that belongs to me hooked to the internet and a satellite.. me and my girl go out to eat two or three times a week.. I love to cook and I am a good cook and I cook a lots of south Louisiana good food from the fresh spices and vegetables that are available to me. Every couple of months me and my girl take a trip around the Philippines just to get away.. lots of times we have money left over from our $1,500 a month budget.. the house we are living in was not advertised and we were riding around looking at rentals and we found it by accident.. lots of good deals or not advertised and word-of-mouth is the way you find them. Also remember that everything in the Philippines is negotiable😮.. also in the small beach towns the vegetables and other food are cheaper in the smaller towns and hardly any traffic.. I never hear a dog or a rooster, all I hear is the water washing ashore especially at night with the windows open and the ocean breeze coming in the window ... sometimes we will spearfish in the lagoon for our lunch or supper..if you are going to live in the middle of Manila or Cebu City I do not know about that.. find a cheap hotel to use as your base until you find a rental that you want.. "seek and ye shall find" "patience is a virtue"😮😊

I assume you never eat out or go to movies or malls or anything like that right? My gf is a local Filipino and lives in tacloban city she has a tiny studio and pays $600 a month not including utilities. I think if a person is willing to live in a very rural area and never go to malls or eat out and not have a car, and Not get any type of modern Healthcare, they can survive on 1500 😄

i had a woman come and cook a meal and clean, she would bring her daughter both would eat first, then clean, then id pack food for her to take home,payed her 500 peso for few hours work, then i started to notice all my change would be missing, id keep my pocket change on dresser and a bowl or with coins, i stopped using her.

I hired 2 maids one for each of our other houses. Our 2 bedroom here on Samal Island we take care of ourself. The maids are 12 hours a day 6 days a week. I just had to give each a raise because of the cost of food. We pay for each of them to have 2 meals a day. Monthly pay for each is 8,000 php Yearly bonus a week before Christmas 8,000 php 2 week vacation pay 8,000 php Health insurance for them and family Philhealth less then 2,000 php per year. Retirement savings plan we match up to 2,000 php each month.

Our maid works 3 times a week (MWF) 6 -7hrs for 6k pesos. free meals/snacks and coffee. 8k for 12hrs work thats cheap labor. 12hrs is long . Also, it should be 2 rest days . i feel sorry for your maids.

@@xyza-zw5km Both our maids live in our houses in the Providence. When I hired them they were expected to live in our houses 24 hours a day 6 days a week. Over the years we've cut their hours in half and increased their pay. The going labor rate for maid service is 200 php a day no meals included. They started at 5,000 php a month in 2016 have been given steady raises every year and always benefits. I pay more then the going rate of 7,000 php a month. Both woman are treated very well by myself, my wife and our children. Both are over 40 years old and very happy to be able to work close to their kids and family, both are treated like family. Like Steve has said you pay a fare wage and people will Work, and you don't need to over pay them even thought we do. Both women have close to a monthly income of 12,000 php / $240.00 dollars factoring in the money we match them for their retirement accounts, Pay for health insurance, pay into social security for them, pay a 2 week vacation and Christmas bonus every year, plus 2 meals a day. Each has kids in school and my wife makes it a point to pay for the kids school cloths and school supplies every August. If you know anything of Filipinos you know every birthday in every family is special and a time too party. We do ours best to help with those as well. When anyone of their family members has had to go to the hospital for any reason what Philhealth doesn't cover such as medicine we pay for it. Over the last 7 years each has had family members died and we have sadly helped with the funeral cost as well. Both are very happy with their jobs and treated fairly by our family. I seriously doubt you do as much to help your maid, and I would love to see her response if you ever told her what our maids are getting paid and benefits they receive along with love and support.

I was there a few months ago and love it. The cost was more then i anticipated but i just want to ask for future. How much a month is a average cost to rent a room and everything else. Plus i have looked into staying longer next time can i apply there or do i apply in my country? I just really love the country and want to move there one day. Love your videos.

I can't imagine getting a caregiver when I get really old. That gets crazy expensive really fast. My Grandpa lived to a 100 by himself without one. Take care of your health to prevent relying on one. Sounds incredibly depressing relying on someone.

The cost of living difference says otherwise. A live-in maid/helper gets free room and board in a nice residence with decent food, which is worth an additional PHP 15K per month. Therefore, it is worth PHP 20K for a safe and pleasant environment for them to work and relax in. That's better than most Filipinos.
