These are great tips! I’m totally getting Margot Robbie vibes from you. Cute!

Bonus suggestion: When making your own circle skirt, or shortening the hem on an existing one - the horsehair braid can be used to cover the inside raw edge, and avoid needing to double turn the hem, which is annoying on a curve. You can also hem with bias tape, but the horsehair will do both at the same time.

Yep! Exactly. It's such a great, effective hem finish. In my prom/pageant/formalwear/bridal years, almost every hem I altered was like this. Sew the horsehair braid to the hem, press seam allowance towards the braid, understitch seam allowance, turn braid under, press braid & pin in place, pulling thread at top of braid if necessary, and sew what is now the top edge of the braid to the skirt, either by machine if it'll be pretty invisible (it was in this case, thanks to the pattern) or by hand if you care about invisibility. Understitching is on my imminently upcoming list of videos to film.

Oh excellent! Knowing what understitching does, and how to do it has helped me recognize that I could easily make major improvements to free or thrifted garments. Same with knowing how to add pockets. I know you are a major proponent of their importance. If that's not already on the list, I'd love to see how to do any less common styles/techniques and when and you'd choose that version.

@lynn858 hm, do you mean things like double-welt pockets with a flap, or weirdness like "if you're worried your sweat is going to drench your wallet, line your pocket with Ripstop or put your wallet in an unlubricated condom"?

Great teaser! Yes please! I don't think the condom is the right solution for 5-6 days a week on factory floors for 4-5 months of the year... As a con solution... I really like it! I've created belt hung pockets for keeping my phone and wallet out of the sweat. But I'm not needing to keep to a "look".

😂 it's how we keep mics safe & dry during very sweaty musicals. Getting petty cash receipts approved by new, non-theatre accounting personnel for vodka and condoms is always a fun interaction.

Thank you so much for this video! I bought a cosplay for cheap online and it looked sad and very cheap and low quality. I'm going to try to fix the sizing for my body type and whatnot :)

BERNINA 1000 🤩 Also, that looks a million times better 👍👍👍 and what a great way to show the techniques

Thank you! And YESSSS. TBH I wish it were a 1008, bc that bobbin is bigger and can hold way more thread, but jfc this indestructible metal workhorse with its needle that can be pushed to either left or right, and its f'ing amazing mechanical buttonhole knob = my forever favorite. I'm actually also extremely impressed with this Janome 9102D serger. I've had it since 2008 and it hasn't needed servicing ONCE. Few replacement blades, regular cleaning and occasional machine oil, nothing else, and it still runs perfectly after 15 years.
