This looks SOOO good! I specially like the shift. The neckline doesnt look too wide like it falls of the shoulders. It is more snug. Really pretty 😍 and the kirtle: 10/10. Dark blue is my favourite color. I have a renaissance gown also in dark blue linen. Its like a 1480 florence gamurra👍🏼👍🏼

Thank you! The shift turned out perfectly, and was quite satisfying to make. And I love gamurras, I've always wanted to make one!

i strengthened my eyelet channel with a extra band on linen, it wasn't necessary and now there's white peeking out at all time, also my bodice is a bit too big, so i have the opposite problem from yours my gap could close at the bottom (i wanted it to fit more like yours). On the whole rolled pleats controversy, i used to believe that rolled pleats were the way to go because it's what i saw everywhere but when i tried it, it looked much more modern and complex than the painting i used as a source, i ended up doing 2cm wide gathers and in the front i oriented them to face the back like knife pleats and in the back i attached it like cartridge pleats and i'm glad with the way it falls, it doesn't fall *quite* right yet (but pretty damn close) but it's probably because i used cotton instead of wool and i have like 2m or so of fabric. I might try doing proper deeper knife pleats in the front next time and i'll look at 1880s-1900s fan pleats because it's quite similar

Yeah i wasn't sure rolled pleats would have been the preferred method, but i wanted a lot of fabric in the overdress and those pleats looked best. I like your solution to use gathers but arrange them like knife and cartridge pleats, that's interesting. Cotton and wool do drape differently, so I imagine the same pleats would look different on both, yes. I'd love to do more with wool, but it's expensive XD

Not my fav time period but love the outfit. And my thriftstores don't have all these awesome fabrics lol. Skanky curtains is all. ;)

Thanks! Thrift stores can be very hit or miss, yes. Blessedly I have one with a great fabrics/sheets/curtains section, though in this case I got the linnen directly from ikea's own discount bin, and bought the wool new.

Can I ask, did you use a pattern for the blue kirtle, or did you draft it yourself?

I drafted it using the resources on www.elizabethancostume.net/! I did make a mockup first and altered it before using the mockup as the base layer for the kirtle. I believe I added in a bit more shaping to the side seam compared to the pattern the tutorial gave me.
