Looks great and goes to show what you can do with inexpensive material. One of my favourite trees along with hawthorn 👍

Absolutely love this tree!! Reminds me of an orchard apple tree - structure is killer! Tempting as those berries may be, they're poisonous to people. My husband (the botanist) has a habit of sticking fruit in his mouth before consulting the books first lol 😝🤨

cheers Sue, yeah its got apple tree vibes for sure... defo dont eat the berries though!! hahah

What a stunning tree Ian 👌🏻 almost looks like an old apple tree with those berries and the flowers, although short lived, they look very pretty 😍 very much looking forward to working on all my little cuttings next year...

He’s getting some nice taper, Really nice taper if I do say so myself, a gentle taper is all you need as long as the nebari is radial and widely spreading. Colin Lewis said in an episode of the “bonsai wire podcast”that he sees a lot of trees with unnatural or rather trees that have a tapering that is too drastic, he called them chubby men with small heads. 🤣 And this my friend, is far from it, coming along well! 😎
@BackGardenBonsai Жыл бұрын
cheers, yeah the taper is okay.. you might wanna go back and watch part 4 ... see how bad the nebari is haha. its a complete disaster, but it will get there with time

It looks awesome, brother! I really dig it in bloom! I’m curious to see how much different it’ll respond without a root pruning. Either way, I’m diggin where you’re taking this tree, good sir.

Cheer bro, yeah the bloom is the best time of year for sure! i think it will just be lesss stressed without the root pruning.. last time few times ive really wacked it down hard haha. i think it will like the rest

All the leaves on my Cotoneaster horizontalis turned brown and fell off, what could be the cause of this? What could i do to help my little tree pull though? There are little green leaves growing out of some places so i hope thats a good sign. Any advice would be much appreciated.
@BackGardenBonsai Жыл бұрын
green leaves poking through is a good sign. but you have to ask yourself what have you done to it recently ... or not done? did you work on it in any way? have you let it dry out and not watered enough?

@@BackGardenBonsai I pruned it pretty hard in early spring and repot it but it pushed out new buds and I saw signs of new growth. I check on the soil everyday and water when needed so I don't think it could be that. I did start fertilizing it 6 weeks after the work I did on it in spring, could it be that?
@BackGardenBonsai Жыл бұрын
hmm i see. to be fair the first time i did very hard work on this one, it did the same. look like it had died, but managed to bounce back. if yours has green tips now it is probably doing the same. just let it relax now and look after it properly until it fully recovers (so no more work this year)

Hard to say but usually trees die because of either under or over watering. Be sure to do neither and keep it in semi schade.

? is this for the other guy who asked about why his tree was dyin?
