For the 12 year's that operated a sawmill chipper, every shift i would replace the knifes the most important thing was my own padlock to lockout the contract panel as absolutely no other thoughts is someone starting the chipper as I was inside the chipper.

I'm about to do this to a customer's older model 250 after repairing the Cummins 4BTA on it. Appreciate this.

Thanks CT3, good job. I'm retired but have 40 years of running rubber hog very similar to your wood chipper we had 2 anvil knives and 12 drum knives we set The gaps at 20 thousands and after a run time of 1 hour of grinding we would open back up and check gap and torque, our anvil or stationary knives would be flipped once a year. We used to send knives out to sharpening but it was cheaper to buy new, that's probably not the case now with what's going on.

My Vermeer Chipper manual had spec for anvil edge wear. You want clearance between knife and anvil anyway. The chipper is not a set is scissors making a precision cut.

I’d put a quick spray of cold galvanizing spray under that anvil base. Rust ain’t ever your friend.
@patriotarborist711 Жыл бұрын
it is high quality steel and will not have anything other than surface rust for longer than any chipper will ever last
@pauliossi26742 жыл бұрын
you can't get the knives and anvil and their mounting surfaces too clean use a wire wheel and /or a scotch brite wheel to clean things up. NO dirt or paint. If its dirty the pieces will not tighten up right. The saying is if it's not tight it will move, once it moves it will self-destruct.

Oh and check each knives clearance usually ones off and you want the clearance on the closest knife.

Was just wondering if the size of the chips change if your knifes get dull?
@cotontop32 жыл бұрын
Yes. If any part of the anvil or knives wear, the chip size changes quite a bit.

Those 6.2 fords are fairly decent but get goofy with all the electronics, i have one in my f250 and i have to reset the excellerator every so many months, it gets sluggish sometimes like i got bad gas,

Tim curious question that I think you could have a very good explanation on. How do you now separate your work time from your family time vice versa ? Especially now that your not in the woods all the time. Would be nice how to know how to explain the difference to the younger generation
@rajbeekie71242 жыл бұрын
Tim's perspective could be different from someone way younger or has a different hunger level. Many people starting off a new business are pretty hungry. There is little separation. In the early stages of business development in a competitive space there is no time to entertain family separation/balance. It is what it is. There is also no notion of 9-5. For many, it is 12-20 hours a day with little separation. Tim already has a brand. Many people know him. He can choose how aggressive he wants to be. Young people need to develop their brand. They have to hustle. Now, if the younger generation wants the 9-5 with lots of separation they could become government workers, office workers, accountants, etc.

Knife need to be changed regularly and the bed knife should be adjusted up right to spec for optimal performance and and, sharp adjusted machines run longer without bearing issues because the forces are as they were designed. Be sure a super clean surface for the knife and bed knife. You are smart to have a bed knife on hand, it will get rounded and you’ll notice it hitting harder when it chips on a rounded bed, it makes a bit of a wedging action. Always remove the bed knife and clean debris when resetting the bed, you can just loosen the holds and run it up but debris works in, tolerances are important to chipping efficiently. Well done Tim chip on!

Did you locktight the bolts for the anvil and blades or just torque them up to spec. Got to do mine soon so be good to know.
@cotontop32 жыл бұрын
Put them in and torque them. Bandit says loctite but quite a few people and bandit mechanics said not to loctite.
@briansnik18488 ай бұрын
@@cotontop3what was the torque spec for the anvil bolts underneath? I just flipped mine adjusted it all up aaand, watched your video aaaand My bed knife is on backwards. Dang it. The good thing is it's been backwards since I bought it. The flip only works if it was on there right to begin with! Otherwise it's a flip and helicopter rotate👍. Or yours was backwards and now mine is too! Holler back about this. Need torque spec and specific orientation of the need knife itself. Mine was sharp edge on top pointing at you when you looked into the feed. Seems wrong to me so I changed it to look like yours

Be careful running that thing without the clutch engaged.....even for short amounts of times. Destroys clutches real quick. Read the sticker with the operator and the money fluttering by "good operators don't waste money" something about pilot bearings..

The knife bolt torque spec is 180 Ft lbs. I thought I heard you say 280 Ft lbs. Oh my bad you said "to-a-180" its that tater accent thru me off.
