I really like these sharpening jigs. I prefer to use just a file without any guides/jigs, but i tend to go too deep into the gullet. Each filing gets deeper when i just use a round file, so I'll use this jig to clean up my deep gullet filing.

I’ve had one of those guides floating around in my tool box for years and never knew how to use it. I much prefer the Oregon file guide over the husky style.

I like the husky roller guides and use them quite a bit. They make models for .325 and 3/8 standard chain as well as ones for .325 and 3/8 x-cut chain. It states on the package what chain they fit, and they are also color coded.

You don't need to look at the witness mark on the chain, just hold the file parallel with the side of the gauge.

Thank's for that! I just like a sharp chain and my technique improves by watching great videos like this. My 550 xp m 2 is probably the best saw I have owned for a long time, you helped me make my mind up on that. Thanks for the info 👍

Tim...I commented on this chain when you got your first 550 MkII. This is a .325 narrow kerf chain. I agree it is one of the best chains out three and it is all I run on my Dolmar 5105s with an 18" Cannon narrow kerf bar. It takes a wicked edge and stays sharp. I like the Pferd 2-in-1 that keeps my rakers right at .025". But it is a pain having to open it up and roll the files every so often. Keep up the good content.

That husky raker gauge works like the old Carlton file o plate . The shorter the cutter the more it takes off . No guessing right all the time .

I like this style guide. Something I noticed is that the guide rests on the chain so that when the tooth tips away from you the guide stays in alignment with the top of the tooth. I can see that happening in the video. Every other guide I have tried and even freehand you line the file up with the bar so when the teeth rolls away from you cut the tooth pointing up not square to the tooth. And as the groove in the bar wears open and the drive links wear thinner it gets worse.

If you take the rakers down too much it starts eating crank bearings. Makes a vibration that you can't really feel but over time takes bearings out. I use a 2 in 1 stihl for my saws in the woods but once I get home or it rains i use the Oregon electric chain sharpener on saws and on the ponnse harvester chains

After a short while of use, the rollers will get stained where your file rolls across it. You can see it on the one you're using. That will help you keep your angle correct if you just keep the file on the stains.

After doing some research they DO make a file guide for regular Oregon .325 chain, you just have to make sure you get the right part number
@marklobbett455

Hi Tim,yeah i use these alot for my Huskys- they obviously do one for the standard .325 058 gauge- also you can use a flat file to open up the slots & use an 050 file guide for the usual 058 gauge- i dont really like the raker gauge on them-i just use an Oregon raker gauge aswell-doesnt take any space in my tool bag! Ive got the 550mk2 also but with the standard.325 chain- in .058 -with a 15"xforce bar-as You know a superb saw!!!👍

I remember sharpening a chain for my first time...yep I grabbed that chain with my bare hands and pulled it to go to the next tooth..can ya guess what I did? Yep sure did cut myself pretty bad. LOL now every time I see someone sharpen a chain without gloves I think back of that time. And yep everyone I realize he wasn't pulling the chain like I'm talking about.

Good tool but remember guys, it keeps the file high up there, good for the top plate and the corner. You still need to take the gullet a few strokes without the tool
@halfdollar86
@halfdollar86 Жыл бұрын
I haven’t used the SP33G one yet, but This is EXACTLY how I used my standard 3/8 one. I hit the gullet a few strokes first all the way around the chain then come back and use the guide. It did an outstanding job. It really helps me. I’m curious how it would cut if I didn’t file the gullet. I noticed that the raker gauge seems to be set high. I sharpened a fairly used chain and i didn’t have a single raker poking through. I went ahead and hit them a couple light strokes. Do you use the raker gauge on these guides?

I'm not working today due to the 2 inches of rain last night so I am taking my mark 2 in to the dealer. It seems to have lost its programming, my 562 has lost its programming multiple times. Never had that problem with a 576, 572, or the 592 so far. I don't know why but it seems to be a problem in the smaller saws. The way it usually happens is I shut them off for gas and when I crank them back they will only idle, any squeeze of the trigger they go dead. All the normal fixes don't help and I take them to the dealer and they say yes it has lost its programming after they hook it up. Then they tell me its hours and how many times I have cranked it etc. They shoot a program in it and it's fixed. This is the only downfall I have seen with autotune. Side note... I have commented before so you have probably seen it but you can put a 3/8 star sprocket on those 550s and run a 3/8 20 inch bar like for a rancher. It puts the 550m2 on the same level as a 372xp .....almost... .325 chain is sorry stuff.. just my opinion.
